CHAPTER SEVEN: THEN & NOW

A FEW DAYS had gone by since the meeting and tensions had been dying down. There were still people who thought that Rick and his group were dangerous but most of those people were cowards and had never been outside the walls. Most of the people, however, were on Rick's side and trusted him, including Melanie and Margot.
The day after the meeting, Heath and his run group had come back from a long run lasting a couple of weeks. Melanie had met him just after she had arrived in Alexandria. He was a nice guy but Melanie didn't know anything about him. Also the day after the meeting, Rick and Morgan had taken Pete's body outside the walls to bury him. When they did, they found a large quarry full of hundreds of walkers. Several semi-trucks had been holding them in but it was looking like one of the trucks was close to falling off the edge of the quarry and when it did, all the walkers would head east toward Alexandria which meant the end for the community if they didn't do something to stop it and fast.
Rick had developed a plan for how to fix the problem. He had gathered everyone in Alexandria to Deanna's house to explain his solution. Melanie was standing in the corner beside Margot as Rick explained it. The gist of it was that there would be multiple groups that would be leading the walkers far enough away so that they wouldn't be an issue for the community. A few people didn't like the plan, thinking it was too risky and that it would fail and get them all killed. Most of the community, however, including Deanna, thought the plan was good, so it was going to happen. Deanna had mostly given Rick full reign to take charge ever since Reg had died.
Heath had explained that in the early days of the apocalypse, he had found the quarry with the walkers but it wasn't nearly as bad as it was now. Michonne and Rick explained that the noise of the other walkers was what was drawing more to the herd and making it more dangerous. Rick held his arms out to the group, "And here we are. This isn't about if it gives, it's when. It's gonna happen. That's why we have to do this soon."
The plan that Rick was proposing was that Daryl was going to lead them away on his bike along with Sasha and Abraham in a car beside him. Michonne, Glenn, Margot, Heath, Tobin, Nicholas, and Morgan, who was apparently the man that had arrived right after Rick had killed Pete, were going to make sure the walkers stayed on the road and prevent any distractions. Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham were going to be leading the herd away. Melanie thought it was a great plan and a well thought out plan even with the time crunch and Melanie wanted to help out. Ever since opening up to Carl, she had been trying to help out more. She knew that she needed it so she had been trying as hard as she could.
