CHAPTER THIRTEEN:
I WENT QUIET AND YOU GOT MEAN( tw! mentions of assault )
🥀🖤
one month later
A MONTH HAD gone by since Carl had woken up from his coma. His physical therapy sessions with Melanie had gotten better and he had gotten stronger. He was still acting cold during his physical therapy sessions and whenever he had to get his bandage changed. He always apologized to Melanie afterward but that didn't stop Melanie from feeling bad. She now understood how people would feel after she was mean to them. The town of Alexandria had fixed up its walls and had expanded a little bit. Everyone had been working hard all month to try and get Alexandria back to where it had been and maybe a little better than it had been. So much had happened in a month and so much had changed, including Melanie.
Melanie still kept so much in and was very picky when it came to who she chose to get close to but she was starting to let more people in. She had let Carl in a little bit more, choosing to let herself open up and trust that he wouldn't hurt her. They had developed a great friendship due to how much she had helped him with his physical therapy and coping with the trauma of his wound and how he had gotten it. She had been patient with his mood swings and his frustrations.
Melanie had also gotten close to Rick and Michonne who were extremely grateful to Melanie for all she had done to help Carl. Melanie had also continued to get close to Maggie and in turn, had gotten close to Glenn due to both Maggie and Margot. Margot and Glenn were practically best friends after they had almost died together. Melanie had also gotten closer to Daryl due to him saving her. Melanie got even closer to Enid and finally let her in almost as much as she had let Carl in. Everything was going well and it made Melanie a little anxious. She couldn't help thinking that because everything was going so well, soon things would start turning bad but she tried to not think about that.
Melanie was in Carl's room like she was most days. Whenever she wasn't sleeping, she was usually with Carl ever since he had woken up from his coma. Melanie was helping Carl with his physical therapy. He had started that morning with throwing darts but his aim was always off due to his depth perception being messed up. He had gotten better but it was still a work in progress. Now, Melanie had put tape on the wall in the shape of squares, one big, one medium, and one small so he could practice hitting them with a ball to help him learn his aim with one eye.
Melanie sat on the bed as Carl hit the ball onto the wall over and over again. He had moved onto the medium square, which he and Melanie were extremely happy about. Rick was in the other room getting ready for his run with Daryl while Michonne had just gotten done taking a shower. Michonne had been living with Rick and Carl to help out with Carl and his recovery. The music Rick was playing echoed into Carl's bedroom. It all felt so normal that it almost freaked Melanie out.
