CHAPTER NINETEEN:
SEVEN DEVILS ALL AROUND ME

🥀🖤

SO MUCH HAD happened within a few days. First, Denise had recruited Daryl and Rosita on a run to get more medicine but only Daryl and Rosita had returned. Denise was killed by some Saviors who had tried to kill Rosita and Daryl but thankfully, before that could happen, they were saved by Eugene and Abraham who had gone out on a run early that same morning. Melanie was devastated upon hearing about Denise's death. Denise was kind and had helped her on multiple occasions. Denise had also been the one to save Carl when he was shot. Her death was going to rock the community as they no longer had a doctor. After her death and the altercation with the Saviors, Daryl tried to go after the Saviors. Margot, Rosita, Glenn, and Michonne went to try and stop him and they still hadn't returned. Shortly after that, Carol disappeared. Rick and Morgan went after her. Rick was the only one to return, claiming Morgan had continued to go after Carol but he had no idea about the others. Not only that but later that same day, Enid had been giving Maggie a haircut, cutting her medium length hair to a short, almost pixie cut style. As Enid was with her, Maggie felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. She immediately became feverish and weak. The group was now gathering supplies to take her to the Hilltop where Harlan, the OB doctor, was.

Melanie had a bad feeling about everything. There was something in the air that just felt off and it was starting to worry her. Margot wasn't back yet and Melanie just knew that something had gone wrong. Tensions were already high as they waited for a Savior retaliation and now some of their best fighters were missing, and Maggie was sick and in need of immediate care. Melanie wanted to do her part to help. Maggie and Melanie had become close and Melanie wanted to make sure that she and the baby would be okay, so when Melanie heard about everyone taking the RV and heading to the Hilltop, Melanie got her things together. Melanie gathered some clothes, all of her knives, and her gun. She was on her way to the armory when she ran into Carl. The moment he saw her heading to the armory, he gave her the same look that he had given her when she went to fight the Saviors at the outpost.

"Melanie," Carl said harshly as he moved in front of her, blocking the entrance to the armory.

"Move," Melanie ordered, glaring at him. Carl refused to move, so Melanie shoved him out of the way, "Don't even try to stop me, Carl. I'm going."

"Did you forget what happened with those Saviors at the outpost?" Carl asked as Melanie opened up her bag and started stuffing two more guns and some bullets into her bag. "The Saviors are out there! What if we run into more?"

Melanie ignored him and zipped up her bag before slinging it over her shoulders. Carl walked up to her as Melanie grabbed an assault rifle and checked if it was loaded. Melanie started to load up the weapon before Carl placed a hand on her shoulder. The moment he did, he regretted it as Melanie shoved him back, a look of trauma in her eyes. Ever since Melanie had revealed her past to him, he had been careful with touching her, knowing that she was sensitive to it, "Don't!"
