CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE:
GIVE 'EM HELL

🥀🖤

TWO WEEKS HAD passed since the battle between Alexandria, the Hilltop, the Kingdom, the Scavengers, and the Saviors. Despite the Saviors' retreat, the fight wasn't over. The Hilltop, the Kingdom, and Alexandria had spent two weeks planning an attack on the Sanctuary where the Saviors lived. They got their weapons ready and made sure they had enough ammo. They took all the cars and made makeshift armor by placing metal sheets all over one side of the vehicles, with a couple of spots to look through and shoot.

Almost everyone in Alexandria was going to join the fight. The only people not joining the fight were the injured and the young. Melanie was in both of those categories. She was a teenager, and she was still recovering from getting shot. The bullet lodged itself in her upper thigh, thankfully missing her femoral artery, and she had to have surgery to get it out. She had lost so much blood from the initial wound that she almost didn't survive the surgery, but thankfully, she was a fighter and she managed to pull through.

Despite surviving, bed rest was ordered. She needed to rest her leg, which meant she couldn't join the fight. It took Melanie a couple of days to wake up, and Carl didn't leave her bedside once. He even slept in a cot beside her bed, just in case she finally woke up in the middle of the night. When Melanie finally woke up, Carl practically tackled her into a hug while simultaneously avoiding hurting her leg even more. She was advised to stay a couple more days in the infirmary before she was allowed to go home.

While Melanie was in the infirmary, Margot had turned the living room into Melanie's new bedroom until her leg was okay enough that she could walk up the stairs on her own. She had put sheets, a comforter, and fluffy pillows on one of the couches so that Melanie would be able to sleep better, and had brought some clothes down for her. Thankfully, Melanie could use the full bathroom on the house's main floor to shower.

Margot had also made up a bed on another couch for Carl. Margot was going to go with Rick and the others to the Sanctuary to fight, but she didn't want Melanie to be alone while she was recovering. Melanie had to convince her to go, as Margot was almost too nervous to leave Melanie alone while she was injured, but Margot also knew that Carl would do anything for Melanie. She wasn't too happy about leaving two teenagers alone in a house together, but considering Melanie was injured, she figured it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Margot was preparing just like everyone else to leave. She had finished packing a bag and already had her weapons, but she wanted to say goodbye to Melanie. Melanie was lying on the couch like she had been for the last two weeks, and she was very much tired of lying around. Margot had brought over some bandages to change and clean Melanie's wound. Melanie pulled down her sweatpants and winced a little as Margot changed and tightened the new bandages.
