CHAPTER FIFTEEN:
A HAUNTED HOUSE WITH A PICKET FENCE

🥀🖤

MELANIE WAS CONFUSED. The story was that Rick and Daryl had run into Jesus on their run. They had found a huge truck full of food and other items, including Michonne's toothpaste. They had made a quick pit stop and when they did, Jesus showed up. He made them think walkers were coming, stole their keys, and then distracted them with firecrackers before stealing their truck. Rick and Daryl ran after him and eventually caught up to him before stealing the truck back. When they did, Jesus had climbed on top of the roof without them knowing. They stopped at a farm to look for sorghum which is when they realized that Jesus was on the roof. They proceeded to chase down Jesus which Melanie found hilarious before the truck ended up at the bottom of a lake and Jesus was knocked out.

They could've just left Jesus there to potentially die but they chose to bring him back. Denise had looked him over and made sure he was okay before Rick and Daryl put him into what they used for a cell. They had left him a cookie, water, and a note before leaving him there with a guard. How he got out was the first question that they asked when they all gathered at the dining room table. Melanie sat beside Carl and Margot as she stared at Jesus, wondering what the hell was going on.

"One guard can't cover two exits or third-floor windows," Jesus explained. Melanie couldn't get over how much Jesus actually looked like Jesus. "Knots untie and locks get picked. Entropy comes from order, right?"

"Right," Daryl responded, clearly not liking Jesus but then again, if Melanie had interacted with Jesus the same way Daryl did, she probably wouldn't like him either.

"I checked out your arsenal. I haven't seen anything like that in a long time," Jesus explained. Melanie nodded at him, agreeing. "You're well equipped, but your provisions are low. Very low for the amount of people you have. Fifty-four?"

   "More than that," Maggie corrected.

"Well, I appreciate the cookie. My compliments to the chef," Jesus complimented.

"Yeah, she ain't here," Daryl muttered.

"Look, we got off to a bad start. But we're on the same side... the living side. You and Rick had every reason to leave me out there, but you didn't," Jesus turned to Daryl, sensing his dislike. "I'm from a place that's a lot like this one. Part of my job is searching out other settlements to trade with. I took your truck because my community needs things, and both of you look like trouble. I was wrong. You're good people and this is a good place. I think our communities may be in a position to help each other."

"Do you have food?" Glenn asked from the head of the table beside Margot. Melanie sighed. Alexandria had plenty of weapons, more than enough weapons but they were lacking immensely in food.
