"Pardon me professor, but what exactly are you insinuating?" The words had come from outside of the hall, I lean back to gain a clearer view of outside. To my surprise I find Professor McGonagall and Professor Umbridge, standing on the steps arguing.
"I am merely requesting that when it comes to my students, you conform to the prescribed disciplinary practices." Half of the students have wondered outside, in the need of the gossip unfolding. I sigh and get back to eating my lasagna, still holding an ear to the conversation.
"So silly of me but it sounds as if you're questioning my authority in my own classroom." It's only half the Slytherin's left in the dining hall now as the rest of the students have filed outside. "Minerva." Umbridge added on, taking a step up.
"Not at all, Delores." McGonagall says, her two taking a step up to be once again level with the defense against the dark arts teacher. "Merely your medieval methods."
"I... am sorry, dear. But to question my practices is to question the Ministry, and by extension, the Minister himself." She whispers the last word, hushed but loud enough to reach me and Draco.
"I am a tolerant woman, but the one thing I will not stand for is disloyalty." She has a point, not the first part but the second. The two professors stare at each other for a moment, Delores in determination and Minerva in disbelief.
"Disloyalty." McGonagall says quietly, still in utter disbelief, she takes a step down and Delores turns to face the crowd which had a recent addition of all but two Slytherin's. Me and Draco. Delores takes another step up.
"Things at Hogwarts are far worse than I feared." Her bottom lip quivered slightly. "Cornelius will want to take immediate action."
As the students start walking back to the dorms, me and Draco stop hand-in-hand to see Mr Filch hammering a sign into the sturdy brick walls. Announcing along with the loudspeaker, we read 'Delores Jane Umbridge has been imported to the post of Hogwarts high inquisitor.'
As the week goes on we see more and more signs with more and more rules, at some point, me and Draco were invited to her office.
"You two, I shall be putting up another sign in a matter of hours stating the rules within boys and girls being near each other." Me and Draco share a glance entitled 'acceptance of defeat'.
"But, since you two have been nothing but obedient, the rule shall not involve you two." Before me and Draco can celebrate at this statement, Delores cuts in "However, if there is a disturbance that causes a loss of obedience, then I will have no choice but to include you within this rule."
We nod as she excuses us from the classroom. My head feels light as me and Draco sit together in the common room, hearing the speakers blast out.
"All Boys and Girls within a perimeter of each other will be reported to my office." I feel queasy as I lift my legs up into fetal position and lean my head against him. Despite looking uncomfy, the couches bring an unexpected feeling of safety, it's either the couches or Draco...
I'm pretty sure it's the couches.
We walk to our divination class together and get stuck as professor Trelawney goes on and on. Umbridge walks through the doorway and I can hear groans come from the others. She is carrying a quill and a clipboard with parchment.
"Just one question, dear." She says, interrupting our professor, "You've been in this post how long exactly?" She asks sweetly. The professor stutters incomprehensively but Delores continues.
"Could you please predict something for me?" She asks, looking up from her clipboard.
"I'm sorry?" Trelawney asks, half in disbelief, the other in confusion.
I have to admit, it is funny when Umbridge changes some untidy boy's uniform to be perfect as they practically choke. After noticing her brutality, I subconsciously look down to check for any blunders in my uniform, to my satisfaction I find none.
"You applied first for the defense against the dark arts post, is that correct?" She asks, walking circles around my headmaster during potions class.
"Yes." Snape says with minimal enunciation.
"But you were unsuccessful?" She said, pouting.
"Obviously." Delores hums and writes something down on her clipboard while a few scattered giggles were let loose in the classroom, a certain red head chuckling more then most. As Delores leaves, Snape walks up behind Ron and smacks him in the back of the head with a potions textbook.
"Cho, what's going on?" I overhear Harry ask.
"Its professor Trelawney." She replied and both of them speed up their walking to get to the courtyard. Meanwhile I'm forcefully pulled back by a cloaked figure.
"I told you to stay away, I guess this is going to get ugly."
