chapter one
[ brother and sister ]it wasn't until then that she heard horns blaring through the air. her eyes shot up before she could finish her conversation. her and Ao'nung looked at one another before she placed a hand on his shoulder. she turned away, removing her hand, and gathered herself—placing her turquoise knife in its holder wrapped around her thigh; Ao'nung doing the same.
she left her area with Ao'nung on her heel. she hadn't needed to say a word, they knew there duties. she felt as her knife tapped the tattoos on her thigh as her hips swayed with her steps. she clenched her jaw as she watched five ikrans land on her peoples land.
her people almost immediately made way for her and Ao'nung when they felt their presence. her eyes like sirens, was much like her brothers. the darker blue Navi felt the eyes bleeding into the patterns on their skin as they walked past.
her posture nice and her chest filled with air. suddenly, her eyes tensed; alert. but her eyes, they relaxed as she saw that they were just like her. well, maybe not... completely like her.
Nakili, the girl who's eyes were still boring into the newcomers, walked to Tsireya. she hadn't even turned to face her sister until her feet had came to a complete stop—Ao'nung stopping close to her side.
Nakili, her eyes still on the people stood close to Tsireya, her sister. "look at their skin." Nakili didn't say it in a rude way. Nakili wasn't ever rude. she spoke the words in a fascinated way, her thick accent came out rather raspy, as her voice was just that.
Nakili's skin was the same color as Tsireya. the only difference being that, much like many others, her skin was slightly darker. clearly, Tsireya was not blood to Nakili.
she looked over at Tsireya who suddenly blushed. following her eyes, Nakili eyes came in contact with a Na'vi. his braids were pulled into a ponytail, one strand out. but he wasn't looking at Nakili.
.Nakili saw their skin and they way her brother, Ao'nung, and his friend, Rotxo, examined the newcomers. Nakili didn't like it. ( not the newcomers, her brother. )
Ao'nung was trained to be chief one day. it was almost like he already had the authority. with him being rebellious and stubborn made him a great chief. Nakili knew that he could do it, but he wasn't very kind with other people.
he wanted people to look him dead in his eye when he spoke and to reply when he made greeting such as good morning or hivahaw nimwey. what Ao'nung expected was respect because that's what he was taught by his father to desire. Ao'nung wasn't allowed to what want what him himself wanted. it simply just... wasn't up to him.
the people were dark blue, beautiful hair, and oh how pretty were their light sprinkle of white dots that littered their body. she found them quite fascinating. how could one not?
however, the rest of her clan was not as fascinated by them as she found them herself. their eyes said all that they needed to. their eyes were saying things like 'these people are not good,' and 'they are dangerous and do not belong here.' but they were also saying things like 'we don't know them.' and a little bit of 'they're just a bunch of jungle freaks.'
Nakili's blue eyes scanned the dark blue people. watching. thinking. she edged closer, her and her sister did. until her eyes, the shallow teal of them stilled, suddenly her pupils were dilated as she made eye contact with an omaticaya. he nodded at her with a light lipped smile. Nakili returned the favor by simply... smiling back.
Nakili, she wasn't a liar either. she was one of honesty. and with her eunoia honestly, she thought that this particular Na'vi was genuinely beautiful to her. and it wasn't that the entire family didn't have their own unique beauty—there was just simply something about those golden eyes that made her smile.
something about Neteyam's eyes made her happy.
Nakili hadn't felt that kind of need to smile at such eyes since she learned her mother. in summary, Nakili wasn't actually Tsireya and Ao'Nungs sister. her mother died, Ronal's sister, therefore she didn't know her mother, she had only met her through Eywa. Ronal raised Nakili as her own, also therefore Tsireya and Ao'Nung was two that Nakili would call brother and sister. even though in reality they weren't.
but, Neteyams eyes were trained on... her, and only her. his eyes had to be on her, almost as if his life depended on it. here was the thing: she stood out among many people in a sea. why? well, for starters, her eyes weren't as bright, even when the sun hit them, which was what was occurring. but... Neteyam liked the dark, gladly.
Nakili stood tall, not as tall as him though; confident. her shoulders back and her chin up. but she didn't stand like she was in control, but she stood like she was simply just observing her surroundings. she was alert of... everything—nothing went unseen.
Neteyam notices the way her hair was different also. she had small dreads, unlike any other person seen. her hair acquired a red bead that stood out among the rest of the shells in her hair, not to mention how a small portion of her hair from each side was pulled back to the back.
Neteyam was intrigued. why was she so... different. not even just because she held herself differently, but because he couldn't read her clearly. he needed more.
looking over, Nakili saw as her brother and Rotxo attempt to grab at the boys tails, mocking them. Nakili took a single step towards them, holding her four fingered hand out on front of the tails. "do not. Ao'nung, Rotxo." she gritted her thick accent through her teeth. the two straightened their posture and allowed their hands to rest at their sides, away from the tails.
Neteyam's eyes relaxed as a smirk grew on his lips. he turned back before Nakili caught him looking at the three's 'scene' but that smile never seemed to leave his cheeks until his father spoke up again.
Ronal, Tonowari, and a few other glided through the water on their Ilu. the Omaticaya greeted them with a gesture of their hands—well, really just showing that they were of armed. Nakili and her siblings raised their chins as they watched their parents inspect the newcomers. most would skip this part. the cat fight part.
Ronal neared the people, almost as if she was trying to smell their intentions. and soon enough, Ronal and Tonowari were debating whether or not to allow the newcomers to stay.
Tsireya looked almost as excited as Nakili's mind wanted her to be. Tsireya wrapped her fingers around Nakili's forearm and whispered in her ear. "Kili. relax. breathe." Nakili only nodded and smiled at her, however as Nakili's would normally smile with her eyes, she did not. though, she hadn't understood why. Tsireya tugged her arm and began, Nakili followed. "come; we'll show you our village." Tsireya's teeth glistened in the sunlight as she spoke. Nakili rolled her eyes and could help but to smile at her sister. maybe somebody other than her was fascinated also.
-
these people, the Omaticaya people, were family now. she could hear her fathers voice as if he had just said it. which he did. we must treat them as brother and sister. all Nakili had to do know was accept it. because she knew that when she woke up when the sun rose, she would treat them like brother and sister; teaching them to swim and whatnot—"like baby."
"they are like baby." Nakili remembered mumbling to her father.
