chapter eleven
[ life for death ]Nakili and the others could heard frantic screams from the people. "my spirit sister and her baby have been murdered by the sky people." Nakili heard Ronals voice crack as she became closer to the chaos.
"this war has come to us. we knew about this hunting of our Tulkun people, but it was over the horizon. far away from here... now it is here." Tonowari explained to the people.
Jake felt he was going historical at the moment. people were yelling and chanting and he had no authority. "you have to understand how the sky people think. they do not care about the great balance." Jake wanted them to understand the importance of his word.
"we shall answer to the sky people." a person said as they stood with the rest of the Metkayina crowd.
"listen. listen to him." Neteyam exclaimed from beside Nakili as the two interlocked hands.
Nakili wasn't close with Ronals spirit sister, but it simply hurt know that a creation of Ewya, her family, her relative, had been given back to Eywa and nobody could've done anything to prevent what happened.
"the sky people are not going to stop. this is only the beginning. you've got to tell your Tulkun to leave. you have to tell them to go far, far away." Jake held is hands out as his eyes roamed all the people. nobody seemed to listen. he knew they cared, but the didn't listen.
"leave?" Ronal held her hand out at Jake with furrowed eyebrows. Nakili scrunched her nose as she watched. "you live among the people and you learn nothing." Ronal spat.
"we will fight to protect our brothers and sister." another woman spoke for the Metkayina crowd.
"no, no. no!" Jake turned his body, now facing all. "if you attack, if you fight... they will destroy you. they will destroy everything you love. they will not stop." Jake said as to say 'don't you see' to the people who didn't seem to see.
Jake couldn't hear anything but the voices of others standing their ground. Jake then rushed to the platform, holding the tracker up in the air for all to see. all eyes were now on the red that was in front of them.
"you tell the Tulkun that if they're hit by one of these, that they are marked... for death. you need to then call for me and i shall silence it. saving their lives is all that matters. right?" the eyes of everyone only watched as he held the red in the air. "saving your family." Nakili definitely understood.
Tonowari nodded. "tell the Tulkun." he looked over at Ronal.
she nodded. "go, go." Ronal expressed to her people.
-
Nakili watched as Lo'ak dived into the water.
Neteyam hesitated as he watched his brother disappear from his sight. "what is he doing?" Nakili asked the boy as she rested her hand on his bicep.
"he's going to warn Payakan." Neteyam replied to Nakili. "Nakili. Aonung." he shouted as if to say come on.
-
Kiri and Tuk arrived to them in an Ilu with absolute confusion on their faces. "what's going on?" Kiri asked the group.
"Lo'ak, he is trying to find Payakan." Neteyam dove underwater on his Ilu.
"he's so stressful." Nakili rolls her eyes as everyone begins to follow Neteyam ( who was following Lo'ak might i add ) in his tracks.
lo'ak doesn't listen to their words as they yell to him a few wait up's. Lo'ak then rushed to Payakan as he arose from the water. Payakan had a tracker in the side of his body.
"bro, you guys, help me out." Lo'ak exclaims as she watched a ship near in the distance.
"call it in." Neteyam demands. "call dad. call it in, just do it." Neteyam told Lo'ak. Lo'ak hesitated but did what he was asked by his holder brother.
"that ship. it's getting closer." Nakili said as she watched the ship. these were the ones that most would call demon ships. she didn't like them as she clenched her jaw at the sight.
Neteyam began counting down. "three, two, one, pull." they all pull at the tracker. it didn't budge.
Nakili groaned as she noticed the ship getting closer. she must think of something. "we can use the Ilu. come one, Aonung, the rope." Ao'nung didn't take but a second to grab the rope. he threw it to her and she caught it with ease. Nakili and Neteyam wrapped the rope around the tracker.
"set! go, go." Nakili yelled to her brother. by all surprise, the tracker came out of Payakan's thick skin. Ao'nung grabbed the tracker in his hands.
"go that way." Neteyam said to Ao'nung as he pointed in another direction. "we'll draw them away."
until the ship launched all kinds of different subs. Nakili knew that this was now actually... life for death.
