chapter four
[ a freak, an alien ]Nakili was walking with her brother, Ao'Nung. she was telling him how he needed to learn respect for others. he was listening at first. that was until his friends joined them. Nakili could only roll her eyes.
"oh man, look at the jungle freak." Ao'Nung pointed at Kiri who was laying in the water.
Nakili clenched her jaw at Ao'Nung. she herself used to lay in the water and watch the little sea creatures when she was younger. so it angered her, their intentions did.
the four walked up to Kiri. Nakili could only groan. "what is she doing?" Ateyo laughed as they stood over her, shielding the sun from her.
"she's just looking at the sand." Ao'nung laughed. he thought it was funny—Nakili did not.
that was the thing. Ao'Nung didn't care about how others felt. he didn't care about feelings in general. all he cared about was getting a rise out of someone.
Nakili grabbed her brothers shoulder. "come on, piss-log. leave her be." Ao'Nung shrugged her off of him. she stumbled back a bit.
Kiri rose her head from the water. "huh? what'd you say?" the girl stood up, her look concerned.
"are you some kind of... freak?" Ao'Nung watched her every move as he raised his eyebrows. ( i know they don't have eyebrows but where his eyebrows would be. you know what i mean. )
"he asked if you were a freak." the boy, Ateyo, just had to pitch in.
Nakili hit his chest with the back of her hand. "hush, Ateyo. you don't always have to say something." he winced and held his chest. "so dramatic." she rolled her eyes.
Kiri looked at them like they were stupid. "no." she breathed out a laugh and started to walk away. Kiri simply just didn't care what or how they saw her.
"are you sure? i mean, your not even real Na'vi." Ao'Nung followed close behind. "look at these hands." he grabbed her hands up in front of him.
Nakili watched as Kiri yanked her hands back. "come on, man. not cool." Nakili shook her head she threw her dreads over her shoulder.
"hey!" all eyes and heads turned to the voice. "back off, fish lips." it was Lo'ak coming closer. Kiri, concerned for herself, backed up to Nakili.
"ooh. another four fingered freak." Ao'Nung laughed.
"look at his little baby tail." another, most likely Rotxo, interfered again.
"leave us alone." Kiri exclaimed. her voice was stern and full of demand.
Nakili simply turning her head watched as Neteyam neared. she felt a wave of relief wash over her. something about those eyes, she knew.
Neteyam pushed Ao'Nung back from Lo'ak."you heard what she said. leave them alone." Ao'Nung still had that sly smirk on his face. though it didn't hide his feelings. Nakili could see right through her brother. he was scared. "back... off." Neteyam demanded. his voice was low and modulated. "it's your choice, but for now on i need you to respect my sister." they looked at each other for a few seconds before Neteyam turned around. "let's go." he said to his siblings.
Kiri didn't move. she only stood and bit her cheek as she looked between Nakili and her brothers. "come on." she grabbed Nakili's hand.
Nakili gladly went with her. "i'm very sorry." she whispered to her. Kiri only replied with an 'you're good, girl.' and a smile.
"look at them, they are freaks. the whole family." Lo'ak stopped when he heard this.
"even your sister." Nakili stopped immediately in her tracks when she heard the boys voice voice. she turned around with her eyes squinted. Ao'nung even winced at Ateyo's words how could someone ever so possibly disrespect Nakili. he was taken aback.
"Lo'ak." Neteyam went to reach for Lo'ak but was suddenly cut off with a simple 'i got this' and a nod. Neteyam swallowed as he watch Lo'ak walk off.
Lo'ak looked like he knew what he was doing. maybe he did. he approached Ao'Nung. "i know this hand is funny. look." he held his hand up. "i'm a freak; alien. but it can do something cool. first, i ball it really tight. okay? then," suddenly Nakili and Kiri gasped as Lo'ak punched him in his face.
another, then another. after a few punches, Neteyam looked over at Nakili. Nakili looked at him. making eye contact, Nakili only shook her head. Neteyam looked over at the fight. in his head he should help, so being the person he was, he did.
and after a while, Nakili and Kiri found themselves laughing at the fight. they both had know that they would never kill each other, so therefore they didn't snitch and simply allowed them to 'get it out.'
that was until the adults arrived and the girls needed to straighten up. and so they did.
