Xavier laid in bed, staring at the ceiling. He's going back to Nevermore tomorrow which meant he was going to see her. He was consumed by a bunch of emotions.

He's talked to Wednesday all break but not as much as he desired, which he can deal with, he knows how she is and he was thankful for the little conversations every few days.

His alarm went off, snapping him out of his thoughts. Six thirty a.m. He sighed and sat up. He threw on a pair of sweatpants and walked downstairs, making himself pancakes and chugging a glass of water.

During the break he has been working on self improvement, in almost every field. His art, his body, archery and a few new hobbies.

He can lie and say it's all for himself but it's for Wednesday, as she is a magnet for trouble, he wants to be able to protect her. Regardless of what she's done to him, he still about her safety. Not that she can't protect herself but she shouldn't feel like she has to do it alone; Cause she shouldn't.

He sat down with the steaming pancakes drenched in syrup. He suddenly became hyper aware of the silence that surrounded him and his appetit tried fleaing. He remembered as a child, his mom would make these exact pancakes for him. With a smile and toss of his hair.
He hasn't seen his father at all during this break, he was too busy traveling and starring on talk shows, surprise pop ups in tv shows, eccetera.

He felt the ache in his chest, wanting to talk to Wednesday but he's been holding himself back for a reason.
Because maybe, just maybe not hearing from him for a few days will make her miss him just a little bit and she will be happier to see him tomorrow morning.

He quickly ate his breakfast and brushed his teeth- went out for a run- practiced boxing- did some crunches- took a shower- then finally, sat down in front of his easel.

As soon as he got ready to start, his phone starting ringing. His heart sped up, hoping it was Wednesday, only to be disappointed. Pathetic, Xavier he rolled his eyes at himself and answered the phone.

"AJ, what's going on?"

"Oh, I just had a brilliant idea and wanted to involve you in it, bro."

"Oh yeah? What's that?"

"So say I come over later, we have a little pre game party for the new semester and invite a few friends."

Xavier thought about it for a minute. "Fuck it, why not? I've got all the booze in my father's bar, you can get mixers and do all the work of inviting everyone."

"Already done, man. I'll be there soon."

"As expected," He chuckled. "See ya, bud." Xavier hung up and stared at the empty canvas. A drink or two might soothe the anxiety for tomorrow.

Xavier and Ajax walked around the crowd of people, talking with red solo cups in their hands.
Ajax was waiting for Enid to get there. Xavier still hasn't contacted Wednesday but he doesn't need to because he knows her best friend would not not tell her about a party and beg her to tag along.
Xavier had his hopes up, even though he knew he was going to going to end up disappointed.

"I thought you said a 'few' people."

"I mightve understated." Ajax smirked up at his best friend.

Just in time, a short haired colorful blonde walked into the threshold of the front door and instantly found Ajax, running up with a smile on her face, wrapping her arms around her boyfriend.
They've been together just about everyday of the break but that didn't change the fact they craved each other's presence persistently.
No sign of Wednesday.
Subconsciously, Xavier tipped his cup to his mouth and chugged the rest of it.

"Hey Xavier!" She offered him a big smile and a friendly hug.

"I want a drink!"

Ajax grabbed her waist and they made their way to the bar.

Xavier made another rum and coke and Enid asked Ajax to make her a Malibu Sunset. Of course, he wasn't sure on how to make one so she instructed him through the entire time as she read the recipe off her phone.
He handed her the drink and she squealed a thank you.

"Hey Enid," Xavier started. "Have you talked to Wednesday today?"

Her shoulders slumped and she looked disappointed. "Yeah, I asked her to come but her response was, and I quote, 'I would rather, like my ancestors, be burnt on the stake than be surrounded by a bunch of sweaty, alcohol consumed adolescents on my last night of peace.'"

He nodded in response, not surprised. He turned in his chair, looked at the crowd of people and took another sip, slowly numbing his emotions.

***

Wednesday sat on her bed, staring at the wall, unamused. As much as she hated to admit it, in times like this she missed her bothersome roommate. There was never really a dull moment. Enid offered her to go to a party at Xavier's house but as much as she loved torture, she wasn't feeling it tonight.
She didn't want to see them until she had to. Which was in less than 12 hours. It was currently three a.m., her 'bed time'.

For some reason though, she felt a feeling in her chest that she could only explain as a mixture of anxiousness, eagerness with a heightened state of energy.
She saw Xaviers face in her minds eye and that feeling wanted to burst out of her chest. What is happening to me? She wondered. Maybe something bad is going to happen. She sighed and laid down, staring at the ceiling.

She was no longer apathetic, the absence of emotions built a stone house and she couldn't blow it down. This made her more prone to vulnerability. In the body, emotions come before feelings due to the emotional chemicals going to work in the body. She do block both of them out.

Vulnerability = Weakness.
