Wednesday ran, her feet following the familiar path, all of her senses were consumed.
All she could hear was her heartbeat drumming against her chest, as if it were trying to escape. A hollow instrumental serenading a haunted house.
A warm thick metallic liquid danced upon taste buds.
It was as if she was running through a tunnel, her sight only caught what was right in front of her, everything was blurry, but she knew could be blind and still find her way to him. All she could see was an outcome, the worst possible outcome.
She should be feeling the feet against the ground, the branches scraping against her face, the pain in her lip- but all she could feel was terror.
This was nothing like watching an undead dead man shoot an arrow in his direction, she was right there, and she didn't hesitate a moment to catch that for him.
This, this was different. She wasn't there, she didn't know if she could catch that arrow on time. Fear is what consumed her entire being.
She saw a door and distinctly, she felt the palm of her hand on it.
She opened the door, startling a beautiful painter, wearing paint and an unreadable expression. Mixed between delightful and alarmed. After a second, it was merely worry.
Regardless of Wednesday seeing him safe and sound, she couldn't shake the feeling off. It was so powerful, the thought of losing him.
Without thinking, she ran up and wrapped her arms around his neck and he instantly wrapped her up, whispering words of comfort.
"Wednesday, it's okay. It's okay."
It is okay. She thought. By why did it still feel hard to breathe? Xavier slowly sat her down, pulling her onto his lap, resting his chin on her shoulder. "It's okay." He reassured once again.
"You're okay," Wednesday sputtered out, frantically but slowly.
Xavier was taken back; he reassured her anyway. "Yes, I'm okay."
She became consciously aware of her breathing and her thoughts. She looked up at Xavier who looked hesitant. She ran a finger down the side of his face, to his chin. She wanted to tell him the cause of her episode, tell him to go back to the school, but instead all she could do was tell him how relieved she was by crushing her lips against his.
She felt feverish, positioning her legs on either side of his, grabbing a fistful of his painted shirt. She was thankful he didn't paint with color, though she knew she would risk getting a splash of color on her for him. Hell, she would drench herself in all the colors of the rainbow for him.
His hesitant hands eventually found their way to the small part of her back, crushing her into him. It was impossible for him to not meet her halfway with the same passion she was pouring into him.
Little whimpers came from Wednesday's mouth, the fear she felt before being replaced by desperation and solace. She wanted him closer, and this wouldn't suffice. She wanted his soul and she wanted to give him hers in return.
"Wednesday," Xavier pulled away, wiping tears from her cheeks she wasn't even aware of. "Talk to me, my raven."
Normally Wednesday would hate this, the closeness, the vulnerability, the nickname. But with him, she felt no need to hide behind a facade. It was only he she would bare her soul to. She sat on his lap like a wounded puppy, looking up at him with her mouth agape, no words could find their way out.
"Wednesday! Xavier!" Enid ran in with Ajax right behind her. Wednesday was thankful Xavier wiped her emotions off her face because that was not something she wanted to share with everyone else. She got off Xavier lap and they both stood up.
"Alright, will somebody tell me what's going on?" Impatience cursed through Xaviers blood. He has never seen Wednesday cry before, and he was also a little irritated they busted in on such an intimate moment.
"Tyler is back." Wednesday said emotionless. It wasn't him she was afraid of; it was the fact that Tyler would know exactly where to hit her where it hurt the worse.
Xavier.
Everyone glanced at each other, unsure on what to say or do. "What? How?" Xavier spoke up, now fully irritated, glancing at his love, feeling his chest cave in, now cognizant on where her mind has been.
"The government lacks a high rated IQ. He escaped." Wednesday crossed her arms. "Let's get back4. We need to figure something out."
Xavier grabbed his bag that had his uniform, and they all followed her.
Enid was hugging herself, the trauma of last year hitting her like a ton of bricks. Ajax kept her close but stayed quiet. He let her sort her thoughts out but reassured her with his presence.
Xavier walked next to Wednesday, his stride was slower, but he kept up just fine with his paces being much larger than hers. They were also quiet. He knew she didn't want to be, and he knew he would much rather be holding her in his arms than watching her shut her emotions back off.
He loved seeing her vulnerable, not because he liked seeing her delicate but because she trusted him to see her like that. He knew Wednesday and she was anything but delicate.
She swarmed through his door with enough strength to reconstruct the hinges. The look on her face, remembering it; it felt like a darkness was gripping onto his heart, constricting the valves to pump blood, causing his lungs to run out of air.
The terror written all over her features.
The fierce way she kissed him.
The helplessness in her eyes when he pulled away from her, wiping her tears; that look specifically... it awakened something in him.
He never wanted to see that fractured look on her beautiful face again.
He will be the one to kill or capture the Hyde.
Whichever one is necessary.
