Only Broken Once, Right?

"Mother I am home!" I yelled comically. "Hi Riley." She said. "Poor Maya left sick during lunch today." I said as I sat down and pulled out my homework. "Shawn told me. Just a fever."

About 10 minutes later Auggie and dad came through the door. "Hey Auggie!" I turned around on the bench and hugged him. "Topanga!" Dad called. "She's cleaning your room." I said. She walked out. "What? I'm busy." She said. "Joshes dorm building is getting repairs done next week, and they are pretty close to his room so he was wondering if he could stay here next week." Dad said. "Uncle Josh!" Auggie and I screamed in unison. "Well I guess that answers it. Go call him Cory." Mom said. He nodded and walked down the hall. Mom went with him to go back to her room. "Do you want help with your homework Auggie?" I asked the little boy. "I don't have any today. Can we play a board game?" He asked. I love how he noticed Maya or my other friends aren't here and he is trying to make the most of it.

I was sitting in Topanga's with Lucas when I got a call from Maya. "Hey Maya." I said into the phone. "Hi. I went to the doctors and I just have strep. I'll be back in school in a few days. Listen I can't talk I just wanted to tell you real quick." She said quickly and quietly. "Okay Peaches. See you soon." I said and hung up. "Who was that?" Lucas asked after taking a sip of his drink. "Maya. She has strep throat." I reached down and grabbed my smoothie. After taking a couple sips I laid my head down on Lucas's shoulder and asked him, "Do you love me?" He looked down at me. "Of course I do Riley, why wouldn't I?" I lifted my head off his shoulder and looked him in the eye.

I remember when we got back together. It was my sixteenth birthday, and Topanga's was closed for a family and friends party. Lucas pulled me aside when I was talking to Smackle, and brought me into the kitchen. "Listen Riley, I know we broke up or something when we thought you were moving to London. But I still really like you. You and I are meant to be. We've been through so much together-" I leaned up and kissed him. "I still really like you to Lucas." I said when we separated. "And I really want to be your girlfriend again." He just looked at me with a huge grin starting to form on his face. He pulled me in for a hug and we lasted for at least 30 seconds like that. He let go of me and took my hand. We turned around to see our friends and Auggie peeking through the window on the kitchen door. We just smiled at them.

"I don't know." I said. I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and went back to my position on his shoulder. He laid his head on top of mine. And then, like magic, my dad appeared on our laps. "Where did you come from?" I yelled at him. "Not sure, but I should only be on one person's lap." He said excitedly. Lucas jumped up and ran. "I love you Riley!" He screamed as he ran out the door.
