I'm a huge Sonic Unleashed and Werehog fangirl. Asides from Frontiers, Unleashed is one of my favorite Sonic games ever. I'm super happy to be a Sonic fan and also be apart of Team Unleashed as well, being one of those fans to help the Werehog keep smashing his way towards victory, even if we may never see him again in a future title. I enjoy looking and reading anything Werehog and/or SU related, and I even enjoy skimming and reading through SU webcomics like Super-Emerald's "The Heart of a Monster" twist comic(go check out the comic on its Tumblr and official website you won't be disappointed).
To show my love for SU, I present to you this AU: Heart of a God, Soul of a Warrior. It's more of a Sonic Unleashed twist ending AU that randomly came to me and I ended up liking it in the end. The question was simple: what if Sonic had to become Dark Gaia to save the world? To answer it, I thought about some stories where the main character gains something, but there is a cost to it, or a story where the main character has to do something that they don't want to do, but it's the only option in saving the world and they have to do it anyways, like the game Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
With these elements, I was able to put together this AU that I had so much fun plotting and making. I had so much fun with it, I even decided to make it a bigger Sonic AU where it branches into other games and even IDW! With this out of the way, I hope you, dear readers, enjoy reading Heart of a God, Soul of a Warrior!

These were last minute, but here are the Perfect Dark Gaia designs for both the bigger and smaller versions of Sonic. He is rarely in this form since it drains his energy.

Another thing I added was that I Chipified my Dark Gaia Sonic to where he could become the same size as Chip. Sonic freaks out at first but eventually finds out that he can fly fast and get around quickly like he can run normally.
As for his abilities, Sonic can use dark magic in both his MG and normal forms. With his magic, he can surround his arms in fire and perform an attack similar to the Werehog stretchy arms. On the surface world, he can change into his MG form with his powers or through intense anger(during a full moon he is forced to transform); whether it be in the ground or surface, Sonic can summon and control the Dark Gaia spawn to his will. His bigger form is harder to control because of how aggressive he usually gets in it due to his clouded and wraped mind, often causing a lot of havoc underground to where even Abyss, Chip, or Lucius need to calm him down. As the months pass, Sonic learned how to control it a bit better, but he still doesn't change into it often.
