Back in the Underground, Sonic was shaking. He was twisting and turning as he slept in his chamber room. His growls pierced his slumber as he began to have flashbacks about the day he sacrificed his old life to save his friends on the world above. He heard Chip's screams, his own roars when he emerged from the lava as the beast he turned into, and seeing himself cry before pushing himself into the lava and soon being out of it seeing Abyss look at him in fear. "Oh Sonic...what have you done?" were those words that Sonic heard as soon as he jerked himself awake.

He was breathing heavily, his third eye blinking a few times at a random pace. Sonic growled as he shook his head as he got up. Sonic straightened his snake body and stretched. He looked over and saw Abyss, who was getting worried about her master. Her wings were dropped. "Are you ok?" she asked Sonic. Sonic growled softly, and nodded with his ears dropping. "I miss my friends," Sonic growled. "I just wish I could see them again....." Abyss felt sorry for him. His friends meant everything to him, and yet he knew he could never see them again.

Sonic bent down towards the ledge that Abyss was on and let her pat his nose. Sonic purred rumbly growls as her pats calmed him down. "Do you feel better?" she asked. Nodding, Sonic got back up and roared, summoning some spawns into the room. Some of the spawns jerked their heads in confusion, while Abyss tried to calm down a Big Mother. It did eventually calm down, and Sonic looked at all of the spawns. He nodded, satisfied, and then said to them, "You're all free to go."

Just like that, the spawns left, leaving him and Abyss alone. Sonic turned into his smaller form after that. "What was that for?" Abyss asked Sonic. "Just checking on the spawns, that's all," Sonic replied. He was still sobbing a bit. He was missing his friends again. "You do miss them huh?" Abyss asked Sonic, who nodded in response. Sonic just wished he could go back up to the surface to be reunited with them again. He wanted to give Annabelle and Tails the biggest hug yet, let Amy hug him back happily, wanted Knuckles to say hey to him, and he even wanted to race Shadow again, yet Sonic had no idea how he could run with his neon blue clawed feet.

"I know you miss them Sonic. Now that I've changed, I want to go tell them hello and such. That I'm on their side now, and not Eggman's," Abyss told Sonic as they left the chamber room again. "They would like that very much," Sonic replied. He then talked about his friends to Abyss, telling her all about them and how she would like them very much. "They sound great," Abyss said, making Sonic nod. A flame came from his hand, and through the flame, he saw his friends, making him sigh. He let the flame go. "If only I could see them again....." he sighed. Something popped in Abyss's head. "Actually, there is a way," she said, making his ears perk. He looked at her surprised.

They were in the part of the Underground where Sonic and Chip first encountered the original Dark Gaia. Chip and Lucius were there too. "The original Dark Gaia not only had the power to revert to a smaller form, he could also teleport to the surface as well," Chip explained to Sonic. "You're..... saying?" Sonic said in a breathless manner. "Yes. You too, can turn into your normal self and return to the surface to see your friends again," Lucius finished. Sonic was starting to get excited. He could finally see his friends face to face. He could prove that he wasn't dead. He could get a kiss from Annabelle. "I.... can't believe it. I can go back home....." Sonic said. He once again looked at his hands, feeling the urge to see them normal again.

Abyss felt so happy for Sonic. She couldn't wait to see her master smile and reunite with those he loved. Chip then continued onwards with his explanation by saying, "I wish I could come with you, but I can't. However, I can give you this." From his hands, he made a bracelet that looked similar to the ones Lucius wore. He gave it to him. "What's this?" Sonic asked Chip. "If you ever want to talk to me, use that bracelet," he told Sonic. "It's similar to the ones that my son wears to be precise." Sonic gasped and looked at Lucius, who laughed a bit. He encouraged Sonic to put it on, and he did. "A sung fit!" he added. Sonic looked at his friend. "Thank you Chip," he said with a smile.

Chip, saying your welcome, rejoined Lucius. "But it would be best if you kept your new identity a secret," Lucius added. Sonic was about to speak, but Abyss said, "He's right. You don't want your friends, or your nemesis, finding out about this yet. They would think that you would be the foe here." Sonic realized that she had a point. He nodded and smirked. "Don't worry, I've got this all under control," he told her. Sonic then left Abyss in charge of the spawns while he was gone. He said his final goodbyes to Chip and Lucius before using his powers to teleport himself back up to the surface world as his Underground friends wished him goodbye and good luck. At last, Sonic was finally going home.
