There were two halves of the Underground. One housed the god of darkness, and the other housed the god of light. Both areas were very different from each other. While the darkness domain was barren and filled with lava, signaling it to be the heart of the Underground, the light domain was covered in many plants, as if it was an underground forest. A wall of vines separated the two areas from each other, just like how the darkness was separated from the light.
Sonic had heard the stories about the old Dark Gaia and his friend Chip, or Light Gaia in the books, across his travels on the world above. How they were the two beings who came first in the world and shaped the Earth to their desire, the many times they've fought when the old Dark Gaia shattered the world all those years ago, and when the two gods put themselves to sleep, never to awaken until another few hundred years. Yet, there was a rumor Sonic read in one book that the two could fuse into a more powerful form, but he wasn't too sure if that was the case.
This was one of Sonic's favorite things to do. It was have a meeting or chat session with Chip and Lucius. He now had them with him for all eternity, but yet the cost was that he could never go to the surface to see his friends again. With his dark magic, Sonic moved away the vines blocking the two sections of the Underground, and he and Abyss walked through. "I don't think I'm ready to see Lucius again," Abyss moaned. Sonic stopped and looked at her. "You'll be fine. Trust me. I've known Chip during my world adventure and Lucius for the past three years," Sonic explained to Abyss. She gulped, agreeing with her master's words, and the two walked through the second portion of vines.
This was one of the few times Abyss ever got to see the other side of the Underground, since due to her being the original Dark Gaia's daughter, she wasn't exactly allowed to see what it looked like, but whenever she did, it would be just as beautiful as she imagined it to be. "Wow....." she said in awe. "It really is like an underground forest in here." Sonic's tail rustled the leaves from underneath him, looking in awe of all of the trees and vines that covered the place. If only my friends could see this, Sonic thought, looking up at the ceiling. It was dressed with lighting bugs, which made it look like the ceiling was the starry night sky back on the surface world.
Lucius was tending to some plants when he spotted the two of them. "Oh! Abyss! Sonic! You made it!" he said happily landing in front of them. He gave Sonic a big hug. "Good to see you too, Lucius," he replied. After the hug, Sonic asked where Chip was at. Lucius was about to answer, but never got to finish his sentence as Chip, in a more Mobian like form, appeared from behind some trees with a chocolate bar in hand. Sonic smirked and then laughed. "I see you've been snacking while waiting on me," he joked. "Well actually, I was wondering if you wanted the other half," Chip replied, handing the bar to Sonic. "Don't mind if I do. Thanks," Sonic answered back. He finished the bar before making the wrapper vanish in a blast of purple flames.
"You've really improved on your magic. Impressive," Lucius told Sonic, who thanked him afterwards. The four friends then had their talk session. How things were racking up, Sonic taking control of his larger form, and so forth. Even Chip could understand why this was Sonic's favorite thing to do, and he was happy that Sonic enjoyed talking to him.

Back on the surface world, Annabelle and the others were having a meeting of their own. "So, you're saying that Sonic could still be alive?" Tails asked Professor Pickle, one of the professors at the university located in Spagonia. "Indeed yes, he replied, "Though retrieving Sonic would be a very hard task. The Underground is filled with many of Dark Gaia's minions."
Annabelle then happened to speak up. "What about Abyss? She shouldn't be a problem now right?" Tails looked over at his sister and explained how he had overheard what Sonic and Chip were doing through a radio he had installed in the Tornado, confirming that Abyss had teamed up with Sonic to defeat Eggman's Egg Dragoon before arriving to the bottom of the pit. After that, it had cut off. "Abyss is on our side now?" Amy asked. "What a shock." Shadow sighed and shook his head. He knew how Eggman was when it came to his "allies". He then decided to speak up. "So how do we get to this Underground?" Tails then looked at Shadow and had to explain that it was basically the Earth's core. A dimension nearly impossible to access. "I also think your chaos control might not be able to teleport you down there," Tails concluded.
Shadow was about to speak up, but the professor stopped him, supporting his sentence with Tails's. Shadow, sighing, sat back down. They had a point. He couldn't chaos control down to the Underground. If he did, the first thing he would be greeted by was Dark Gaia and its minions, and Shadow did not want to get swarmed with those creatures of the night. "Is there another alternative? Anything?" Shadow then asked. The others, including Silver and Blaze(they also decided to join in), had nothing. "We'll have to think of an alternative way to go down into the Underground," Professor Pickle explained. "Unless Sonic comes to us. Which might be our best option."
Knuckles stood up, and after stretching, he told the professor thanks for the help, and the others followed him out except for Tails, Annabelle, and Amy. "Sonic may be trying to find a way to escape at this very moment," the professor told the three. "I'm just happy to know that he's not dead," Annabelle said as she took out a photo of her with Sonic and Shadow next to her. Tails, Amy, and Knuckles were also in the picture. "We need to find a way to express this with the world," she continued. "Tell them that our friend is still alive and looking for a way to leave Dark Gaia's grasp. But as of now. We'll wait...... and hope..... that Sonic returns to us."
