"Where have you been? Why is Layo with you?" Kelvin frowned, he opened the door to his penthouse wider to accommodate them, "Hey sweet girl! How are you!" he bent down and said with a soft smile on his face, "is everyone here?"Kelvin turned to her and nodded before carrying Layo who smiled shyly at him, she had a secret crush on him, he had visited her and aunty Keasha once just like uncle Kelson did, she held the barbie doll she had been gifted just some days ago tightly as they approached the living room.
They walked toward their friends, "Hey, are you okay?" Nisi asked and walked toward her giving her a quick side hug, Nifemi joined before turning to Layo, "this must be Layo! The chaos didn't allow me to meet her properly, how are you baby girl," the girl nodded, turning to look at all the strangers sitting in the leaving room, more strangers.
"Let me carry her to the living room, there is plenty plenty of cartoon there!" Layo's ears perched, and she bounced happily as he approached the Tv, he switched it on and changed it to a channel she could watch. Layo grinned as Dora the explorer came on, "you like this one?" she nodded eagerly.
"She you like Fanta?" she nodded eagerly as Nisi brought a box of cupcakes and Fanta, she rubbed her hair, she was a very beautiful child and she looked very similar to Dara. The child accepted it with pleasure, it was not every time she would get the opportunity to eat that kind of thing, she had to be prudent with the opportunity she was given.
"What happened? Why did you bring Layo?" Kelvin said quietly from the kitchen, "let's go to the upstairs living room if you are worried she will hear us," Kelvin suggested, she should her head and shrugged looking back at him, "it's no use, I will explain to her later," she turned away from her.
"My parents decided it was fit and healthy to arrest aunty Keasha and the state was kind to charge her to court for kidnapping, falsifying affidavit, child endangerment, and many other counts I do not even want to remember," Dara rubbed her face exhausted.
"What? Are they crazy?! Aunty Keasha helped you!" Kelvin said in disbelief. "I was called to the police station yesterday and they had their lawyer do thief dirty work for them, it was so disgusting, I just sat there watching them threaten me, they made me sign a restraining order against aunty Keasha, they tried to convince the judge to give legal caretaking rights to my parents but the judge needed my consent and Kelson's."
They should their head, "that fucked up man! How could they do that?" Dele said marvelled, "I know some parents are crazy but you live your kid for eight years without knowing her whereabouts and now they arrested the person that helped you?"
"I am planning on leaving that place as soon as I can, I refused to stay with them at first but they threatened to fight for Layo's custody and I know they will win. Everything is in their favour. My illness, the fact that I am poor, struggling and am still a student, I will lose everything to them, I refused to sign caretaking right away was a relief, but now I have to stay with them or I will become homeless, I can't let that happen, so I need the plan to get out of there as soon as possible!"
"Is it that bad?" Nifemi asked feeling petrified for her friend, "they are putting on their best show when you see them you would think they are the best parents one could have but I know them, I might have lost my memory but I can not forget what they did to me, I need extra cash if this is going to work. So I need a job," Nisi sighed thinking about the mess her friend was in.
"Where do you live exactly, that will determine a lot," Nifemi explained, "banana island, but I need a job around here, but I cannot live my child with them, I will not be able to rest, I will constantly be worried about something happening to her."
"You stay at the banana island?" Nifemi frowned, "your parents must be super rich," she joked making all of them frown, "how is that important?" Dele asked making Nife shrug, "it is not, it was a joke but you know getting a job here is against your scholarship contract, the school pays you a monthly allowance shouldn't that be enough?"
