Nat xx
Toni had been going through the motions as the weeks after her nana's funeral passed. Her birthday came and went even though she didn't want to celebrate her friends visited her trailer with pizza and a couple of beers. Things were still hard and the trailer sometimes seemed so empty, so lonely Toni wasn't always sure she could take it. She tried her hardest to remember the good times however they were often overshadowed by her grief.
She decided that school just wasn't where she wanted to be and instead she was doing serpent jobs to get by. Cheryl tried to get her to see sense even offered to help her out financially but Toni refused leaving no room for arguments. Moose had also been bombarding her with flowers and letters which she didn't even bother to open. Sometimes they'd arrive whilst Cheryl was with her but the redhead never mentioned it. She just diverted her eyes and played it off.
Cheryl and Jason had invited Toni, Sweet Pea, Fangs and Jughead to their house tomorrow evening for a party they were throwing for their birthday while their parents were away. The redhead tried really hard for the brunettes birthday making her breakfast in bed with a little note about how much she cared about her, a red teddy bear was sat proudly next to the stuffed rabbit her parents bought her when she was young and a gold charm bracelet including a little snake and a cherry. Toni couldn't really afford to match that but she'd been pulling in a couple of shifts at the Wyrm to get a little money together for a gift.
After searching around for what seemed forever Toni finally settled on a thin gold chain with a small gold heart, a teddy similar to the one the redhead got for her and a single artificial red rose. Cheryl was due to spend the evening with her tonight and she really wanted to try and push past her sadness to make it as special as she could. She also had worry in the back of her mind though. Since she and Cheryl became official the serpent hadn't had to witness her girl with Reggie. Her boyfriend. And she wasn't entirely sure she could handle it. She would at least try, but even the thought of Reggie putting his hands on Cheryl filled her with emotions she wasn't sure she could control. And the more time they spent together only made it harder for Toni.
A knock on her trailer door jolted her from her thoughts, she quickly looked around making sure everything was perfect. The candles flickered gently as music played quietly in the background and Toni was now unsure if maybe she'd gone too far. Maybe this was far too romantic for a birthday gift. Regardless it was too late now and as the knocking on the door continued she forced herself to try and be confident.
'Hi,' Cheryl said as Toni opened the door.
'Hi, come in'.
Toni stood to the side to allow the other girl in. Her heart was pumping hard in her chest although she tried not to show how nervous she was.
'What's all this?' Cheryl asked.
'I wanted to treat you for your birthday. Could I take your coat?'
In that moment seeing Cheryl's smile made all of Toni's nerves melt away. She stepped forward gently pulling the coat from the redheads shoulders before motioning for her to sit down.
'I'm not much of a cook so I got us Pops. I hope that's all right?'
'Toni it's perfect. Thank you'.
The brunette just smiled as she plated up the food before sitting down herself. They shared shy glances as they ate neither of them saying much instead just enjoying the moment together. Once the food was pretty much gone Toni cleared the table. Just as she reached for Cheryl's plate the redhead took her hand to get her attention.
