"Hey, YuYu?" He whispered, slightly scared of how the girl would react to seeing him after what happened.
"What?" She whispered back, her voice cracking slightly. She was hiding her sobs, he realized that.
Instead of saying anything, he pulled his best friend into his arms, holding her and not planning to let go anytime soon. She wept and cried, but didn't explain why she was acting that way. "Why are you crying? I'm okay..." He frowned, not yet understanding.
"Y-you h-hurt yourself..." She mumbled into his neck, not daring to look at him.
"I had to prove to Shanks that he should take me, YuYu." He explained as he softly pulled her closer to himself, "I needed to prove to him. I want to become the pirate king." He hummed, trying to explain it clearly.
"I know... but you don't have to hurt yourself to prove anything..." She sighed. Yuna moved to get herself more comfortable with him and was now sitting on his lap, facing him with a serious expression on her face. "I never want to see you hurt yourself again, okay?" She stated, pulling her pinky out and looking at him with intensity.
"Okay," He smiled a small genuine smile, pulling out his pinky and interlocking it with hers. They both kissed their thumbs before pushing them together to seal the unspoken promise.
Eventually, they both passed out together like that in the middle of the woods.
The next day, Luffy decided to confront his best friend, he felt she wasn't telling him everything, and he wanted to know why exactly it affected her so much.
Luffy, surprisingly patient, waited most of the day until you both were alone again. Although you did spend every hour together you both were always surrounded by people. "Yuna-Chan?" He called for her before she left the room.
Curious by the seriousness in his voice you walked over to him. Deciding she didn't want to stand for this conversation, you pulled him with you to sit, his back against your chest as you held him tightly, "Yes, Luffy-kun?" Yuna hummed, curiosity filling your voice.
"Why did it affect you so much when you saw me hurt?" He whispered his question, almost sounding afraid you'd run away, even though he knew you wouldn't.
Yuna froze, scared to tell him the truth she was afraid he'd see her differently. "Promise me you won't see me differently, okay?" She gave in.
"Okay," He whispered, "I promise."
"When I was a little younger..." She continued to explain in detail what happened to her, not looking at him but instead focusing on playing with his hair. She didn't stop telling him her story for a while, talking quietly. She hugged him tighter in some parts and took deep breaths when needed. Eventually, she finished explaining to him what happened and waited for his reaction.
Luffy dared not to speak when she started talking, listening intently to everything she said. He noticed how some parts were harder for her to say and during those times he gave her hands little kisses and held them. He didn't interrupt her or think about anything else at this moment. He almost regretted asking but refused to think about it that way for long when he realized how important this was for their growth as friends. He was furious, not at Yuna, but at the people who did that to her and her family, he had always wondered why she never talked about her family, but now he understands. When he knew for sure she was done and there was nothing else she wished to say, he turned around and pulled her onto himself and let her cry. He knew that this was a hard topic for her now and would not bring it up again.
"It's okay, nothing will hurt you anymore, not since I'm around. I promise. I'll never leave you alone, ever." He told her, holding her face in his hands as he looked her dead in the eyes a serious look on his face. "Nothing will ever happen to you, and if something does, I'll kill whoever did it." He stated, no hint of lies or deception.
Having him look at her with such ferocity and seriousness Yuna knew she would be okay. She leaned in and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek. "Okay," she paused for a brief moment before continuing, "If anything happens to you either ill kill whoever did it." She stated the same ferocity and seriousness in her own eyes.
