Prologue: Broken Record

"I won't be back until later tonight, is that okay with you?" Heizou asks me during breakfast.

"Huh? Oh yeah, that's fine. Just don't overwork yourself." I say, nodding my head.

I'm not trying to ignore my husband like I am, it's just...

Something's been on my mind.

Heizou seems to notice how I'm spacing out because he smirks.

"Don't lose your head in those clouds, Kuni-chan." He teases, kissing my cheek as he gets up to place his bowl in the sink.

I put a hand to my forehead.

"Look, I'm not meaning to ignore you it's just..." I trail off.

How can I explain this to him?

Is he going to think I'm insane?

"It's just what? You are a pretty spacey person sometimes, but you've been in some weird third world alternate reality these days." Heizou says, folding his arms over his chest.

I sigh.

"It's just this odd Deja Vu I've been getting. But it's probably nothing. I'll try to stay more on earth now, okay Hei?" I ask.

Heizou himself sighs and smiles.

"I'll hold you to that." He teases, patting my head.

"Going to your work now, I assume?" I ask as Heizou puts his jacket on.

"Yeah, Ms. Sara doesn't like it when I'm late. I don't wanna get yelled at, especially since I've been in a good mood today." He says.

"Stay safe." I say, giving him a quick kiss.

"You too. I'll see you tonight!" Heizou says.

And with that, he leaves to go be a fancy detective somewhere.

I, on the other hand, help my sister's Ei and Makoto (and Ei's wife Miko) in writing for the Yae Publishing Facility.

I usually write the murder stories, the ghost stories, the horror stories, the dramatic ones, things like that.

I also proofread Makoto's writings.

She's smart, but she's an airhead when it comes to writing fiction.

I place my own dishes in the sink and retreat to my office upstairs.

I unplug my tablet and check my emails for the draft of a story Makoto was going up send me.
