"We lost them already. Let's stop running," I say breathlessly as I halted.
Neteyam nods at this, stopping as well.
I look at my own figure, seeing that I've been quite literally dressed in mud. I look at Neteyam too who was focused on looking around our surroundings. I observe his figure as well, and only his leg area was drenched in dirt.
Unluckily, the land we ran into was wet and despite this, we ran as fast as we could through the discomfort. So, that may be the cause of the grubbiness.
"Yeah, we lost them" He says and I now moved my eyes to look at his. "But we got lost too,"
"Lost? Haven't you practically lived here your whole life?" I ask him, confused.
"The only way back is going to where the sky people's locale is. And if we try to go around it, we'll only be met with creatures we two cannot fight alone." He utters, now looking at me.
"Oh. Okay..." I lowly reply.
What now?
Neteyam then walks towards me and seeing this, I lightly move back.
"W-What? Are you going to kiss me again or something?" I ask him, starting to feel flustered.
When he reached me, he stops just as he was right in front. He then softly smiles, looking down at me from his height. "Let's clean up first. I know a river nearby," He then suddenly raises a hand, stopping it just right above my chest. "Can we?" He asks, wanting to hold hands.
goddamn, he's gotten real dang good at making me feel dear.
We had just fought so it's natural that he'd be cautious with me. So many things happened that talking about it feels too much at the moment. I guess he knows this too and wants to take a break from everything first just like I do.
I look away from him as I put a hand in the hand he had raised in front of me. I could totally feel him grinning hard at this.
___
We reach the river Neteyam told me we were going and instantly, I submerged myself under the water feeling hella filthy.
Neteyam shortly follows behind me, going in the water as well.
The river was shallow. If you stand on the ground, the water will only go right by the hip area. What cannot go unnoticed, however, is the water being crystal clear and perfectly blue. Really, everything looks heavenly in Pandora.
"This is refreshing," I comment, happiness apparent on my face as I look at Neteyam who was moving his long hair away from his face.
Seeing that he was having a hard time with it, I couldn't help but laugh at the struggling man.
"I'll help you," I say, still widely smiling as I went in front of him. Meanwhile, Neteyam nods, turns around, and crouches, half of his upper torso being in the water so I could easily tie his hair given the height difference.
We're always like this—a part of a cycle wherein we fight, make up, and fight all over again. Honestly, I thought that this would stop as soon as we got together but unfortunately, that isn't the case.
"I really am sorry," Neteyam suddenly apologized...for the second time today. I only remained quiet as I kept on tying his hair, not knowing how to respond and not knowing what to say either. "Let me correct what I said earlier." He stops, seemingly gathering his thoughts. "The battle still hasn't lost its toll on me—the people who died, my home being demolished, us starting to lose the war, and I...I was scared" He stops again for a bit before resuming. "No, I still am, actually. But I didn't realize that because of that, my actions hurt you. I'm aware that I acted as if I didn't trust and believe in you."
