The next morning had rolled over, I felt Austin's arm around my waist as we laid close in his bed. The sun seeped through the blinds on the windows, I was surprised any light managed to get through with the way it were covered so much. In any other time it would be easy to get lost in here, the day could past and I wouldn't want to be any where else but in his grasp.Yet it wasn't any other time, it was now, our reality wasn't capable of such moments. We had to keep fighting, we had to push forward. Darren was somewhere out there, building and scheming against us. Austin leaned forward over me and placed a quick kiss on my lips.
"Hi" He said softly
"Good morning." I replied smiling.
"How'd you sleep? I know you were pretty sore. Is your head still hurting?"
"Only from your snoring" I said before pushing myself off the bed. Austin leaned upright and chuckled.
"My snoring? I wasn't snoring."
"That's what everyone who snores says"
"Oh, and what about yourself? Tossing and turning? I had to keep my arm over you just so you would stay still."
"Sorry, I guess my mind still can't settle, even at night."
He paused. For a brief moment we appeared as any regular couple. Morning cuddles and banters couldn't last long here though. There was a loud knock on the door and a familiar voice called out behind it. "Austin! Wake up, Its Hawk" Marina yelled. There was silence after and I presumed she'd walked away.
"He's.. getting worse." Austin said leaning forward, stepping out the bed.
"What's happening?"
"They won't offer him reconciliation, they're disappointed in how far this had gone on. You know our mark isn't just to signify and define us but it's also for protection. Hawk's faded after the incident and without it his soul could be lost, stuck here forever."
I gasped. How is that fair? After all the work he's done they won't even allow him to come back. Hawk has done nothing but teach and look out for them. The more I hear, the more I realize how cruel this all is. If you don't follow the rules and uphold your end they'll turn their back on you. These aren't the gods I had been used to hearing my mother talk about. These are different.
"Why wouldn't they offer him reconciliation? He's done nothing wrong." I said
"Taking in a bastard dark child knowing he's the root in the whole scandal upon the world isn't something the gods exactly accepted." Austin said softly before sliding out the bed to his feet. I watched him reach for his shirt as it laid over the end of the bed.
I sighed. He gazed at me while placing the shirt over his head and fixed locks of his hair out of his face. I walked over reaching to grab his hand into mine. "You were just a young boy" I said
