Wednesday stared blankly at her open notes and text book trying her best to retain any sense of information. She clenched her jaw in frustration as nothing came to her, the only thing stopping it being the gnawing feeling at her chest that something was wrong. The goth had taken particular notice of Enid and sometimes even Thing's frequent disappearance. Perhaps the girl was avoiding her, she thought. Wednesday tightened her grip on her pen before slamming it down angrily on her desk. She turned to gaze out the familiar window adorned with the colorful gels that lined Enid's half. Just then she saw movement outside the window, a familiar appendage climbed his way onto the balcony and pushed the door open.
"Where have you been?!" Wednesday snapped, standing up from her chair. Thing jumped at the usually stoic girls display of anger before responding.
"I've been with Enid at Yoko's. I was here to leave a message for you." He replied, calming himself down. "Enid told me to tell you that she thinks it would be best if she switched to rooming with Yoko from now on." Wednesday's eyes widened in panic.
"Why? What did she say?" She asked, taking a few steps closer to the hand and kneeling down.
"I mean other than you two obviously flirting with each other for a while now and then you flat out rejecting her... nope, that's cake." He said rather passive aggressively. The goth furrowed her brows, replaying the recent events in her head.
'I was wondering... If you'd wanna like.. I dunno...'
'Spit it out'
'Like hang out sometime..? Like maybe tomorrow night? Maybe?'
She recalled the look on the werewolf's face when she had stated her previously made plans. Her chest tightened as she remembered the way her eyes began to water.
"I... I don't understand." She said quietly, ashamed at her obliviousness. Wednesday was completely knew to feelings such as these so when she unintentionally hurt Enid it confused and hurt her in return.
"What's there not to understand? She cares about you so damn much Wednesday and you just shut her out!" Thing taps angrily. That's when it hit her, Enid was, in fact, asking her on a date. And she rejected her. Wednesday facepalmed and sat back on the ground.
"Don't yell at me." She replied quietly, pulling her knees up to her chest. Thing skittered over closer to Wednesday so she could see him.
"I'm sorry, this is just painful to watch. I can tell you both care about each other a lot, in fact, I've never seen you show this emotion in your entire life." He signed. "You need to fix this, Wednesday." With the brash conversation over, Thing went to grab a few things from Enid's side of the room to take to her before leaving. Wednesday watched as he left through her side of the window. She stared at Enid's side of the room, analyzing everything. The raven took in the large pile of stuffed animals she despised, the colorful sheets where the two had fallen asleep together, the fabric hanging above the bed, and the fairy lights to top it all off.
How could I have been so blind? She thought. It mystified her how she could know virtually everything about anything except for when it came to emotions. She felt her eyes begin to water once she realized the sheer potential permanency of the situation.
'Haven't you ever cried or are you above that too?'
Wednesday cursed herself for displaying such an emotion she had sworn off. She shoved her face into the sleeves of her jacket attempting to drown out her feelings with warmth.
I can't believe this is happening. How could someone make me feel such a way? The psychic thought. I need to fix this. Wednesday took a few stabilizing breaths in before standing up and returning to her desk. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and began searching. Of course she'd deny everything if anyone asked but she needed answers, and fast, and desperate times require desperate measures.
