It was the day after we went to the bar, and the day after Steven ran into his dad who he hasn't seen for the past 6 years. Steven was at work and I was sitting in the kitchen with Mom. "Do you know what was wrong with Steven this morning at breakfast?" She asked me as I helped her paint her nails.
I looked at her and stopped what I was doing. "Mom, you know how Edna left Steven alone and how he doesn't have a dad?" I asked her. She nodded. "Well, yesterday Hyde, Eric, Fez, Kelso, and I were hanging out. We ran into a guy and he told Steven he looked familiar." I said.
"We didn't know who he was until Steven said 'I sure hope so dad.' Bud didn't even know who Steven was until he told him." I told her. "Oh no, maybe I should invite Bud here, so they can talk." She said. "Mom, no, Steven won't appreciate that." I said shaking my head.
"Janie, Bud's his father." She told me. "Bud left when Hyde was 11. Hyde doesn't see him as a father. Red is the closest thing he has to a father figure. Someone who leaves his son while he's 11, and doesn't see him until he's basically 18, and doesn't even know he's his son until he tells him, is not a good parent, or father of the year okay, to Steven, Bud's just another stranger." I told her.
"Alright fine, but I'll talk to him." She said. I rolled my eyes. Kitty wasn't going to let this go. After I was done, I got up and walked down to the basement. No one was there except for Kelso. "Hey Kelso." I said as I sat on the opposite end of the couch from him.
"Hey Janie." He sounded down. "Kelso, are you okay?" I asked him. He shook his head. "No,...Jackie found out about Laurie and I again." He said. I rolled my eyes. "Kelso, you gotta stop chasing after my sister, she's not good for you." I told him. "I know, should of stayed away from her when she cheated on me, man!" He said.
"I agree, but you also have to stop treating Jackie the way that you do. The way she talks about you sometimes, man, seems like she loves and cares for you a lot." I told him. "Yeah, but sometimes she's a lot." He said. I nodded. "I know. Being Jackie's friend isn't exactly easy for Donna and I." I told him.
"What do I do?" He asked. "Well, do you love Jackie?" I asked him. "Obviously, man!" He exclaimed. "Then tell her." I told him. "Okay, I will." He said, but he didn't move. "Hey Janie?" He questioned. "Yeah, Kelso?" I asked him.
"Do you love Hyde?" He asked me. I smiled. "I love Hyde more than I love Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath, man." I said to him. "Does Hyde love you?" He asked me. "He's never said the words 'I love you', except for when we were at Donna's party that one time, if he doesn't, I like to think he does." I told Kelso.
"How can you love someone who you don't know if they love you back?" He asked. I shrugged, "It's a risk I'm willing to take. Steven doesn't date, but I'm his girlfriend, so that's gotta count for something." I said. He nodded. "Thanks Janie." He said as he got up. "I'm gunna go tell Jackie that I love her." He said as he walked out the door.
I smiled to myself and turned on the tv. While I was watching tv, I heard yelling coming from upstairs. I ran up the stairs. "I got nothing to say to him!" Hyde yelled as I ran into him as I was walking into the living room and he was walking out.
"What's going on?" I asked him, Kitty, and Red. "Your mom invited Bud over." Steven said. He was clearly pissed off. "God, Mom, I told you not to meddle!" I told her. The doorbell rang. "Well, that doesn't matter now, because Bud's outside." Kitty said as she and Red walked to the door.
As she was doing that, I felt Steven grab my hand immediately. I looked at him as I furrowed my eyebrows. "Stay. I don't want to get all mushy and sentimental with Bud. The only person I can be sentimental with is you." He whispered. I smiled and kissed him on the cheek.
