Chapter 20: Seeyu

I nearly freak out when I hear that Inesa will be sleeping over, but fortunately Sara had her back turned at the time, so I was able to cover up my reaction in time.

"This way we can get your makeup redone before school. Unless you want to sleep with it and end up looking like a derp in the morning, this is best." Inesa glares at me, a little annoyed since she did see my reaction. And while I don't think she took it personally, anyone would be a little offended by a "display of obviously not wanting to be around them."

My bad, but hey, you really can't blame me for it.

"Well.. Alright.. I'll be heading to my room.. Have a good girls night or whatever I guess." I decide it's for the best if I withdraw for now.

Leaving my sister's room and heading for my own, I briefly glance over my shoulder to see them instantly forget about me and start their own conversation. Wow, it seems like they are way closer than I thought. How the heck haven't I known about her until now!?

Although I do suppose me and Sara have been quite distant from each other for a long time. Ever since we lost our mother.

In the hallway between our rooms my phone suddenly rings, startling me slightly since for some reason, my volume is all the way up.

I look at the clock on the wall before pulling up my phone out of my pocket. Who would call at this hour? Not a salesperson, that is for sure.

And- Uh.. Oh.. Hm.. Ok..?

Confused, I stare and the caller id. Valorie. Why would she call now? Unsure I once more turn towards the open door I just came out of, and then making up my mind, I quickly walk into my door and shut it before answering.

"Hello? This is Hal speaking."

"Hey, Hal. How are you? Just wanted to check in on you since.. Well you know, Inesa is there and I wanted to make sure you were doing all right."

"Wait what? What do you think could have happened to me!?" How little confidence does she have in her daughter!? Or me.. Am I really in that big of a danger!?

Valorie chuckles a little on the other end before replying. "No, not really. I didn't think anything would have happened, especially with company, but I do want to warn you about sleeping under the same roof as her."

"Sleeping under the same roof? Are you telling me to send her home? Will something happen to me?.." I still can't quite figure out what she is getting at. Sure, Inesa gets "hungry" sometimes as I am learning more and more, but surely she can hold back a night? She just drank my blood this afternoon!

"Well, a Succubus's senses are.. heightened.. during the night, and reach their peak while in their sleep, which makes us be a little more alert and.. "irritable" you could say. Not entirely correct, but close enough. Bottomline is, if she smells a man's scent in her sleep and comes to find you.. Well, let's just say I warned you." I can almost hear her grinning.

"You know, you sound so sinister right now. If we were speaking about anything else I would have guessed some blackmail would be coming next."

She giggles a little quietly to herself and thereafter answers reassuringly. "You don't have to worry about me, a little dramatic flare makes life more interesting, no? I don't actually believe there will be any issues, but I do think it would be best for you to take at least some precaution."

"And you suggest what? Locking my door?" On second thought.. Yes, I'll be doing that.

"Like I said, you should probably not be in that house tonight.." While her voice still sounds calm and reassuring, I can hear the seriousness.

I pause. "But.. Wait.. Where am I supposed to go? I need Inesa to do my makeup again tomorrow? And where else can I go!?"

"I was gonna suggest you stay here for the night, you can either borrow Inesa's room or sleep on the couch, and in the morning I can help you with your mark. And while this is beside the point, it is closer to school so you can sleep in a few minutes." Valorie tries to sell me in on the last part, but then realizes that she is sounding a bit suspicious. "And I give you my word I won't try anything weird, unlike Inesa I have full control over my urges. You have nothing to fear from me."

I sigh. "Alright.." I suppose I'd rather take my chances there than here. "I'll be there soon, any suggestions for what I should tell my sister?"

"You could always tell her your girlfriend called and invited you over. I'd love to hear about Inesa's confusion as well."

I nervously laugh to myself at the thought. That plan isn't quite thought through.. If I say now that I'm going over to my "girlfriend" and then later we have to pull the "Inesa is my girlfriend card" then things won't add up.

"Ok.. I'll say something like that.. Seeyu soon I guess.."

"Seeyou Hal." She hangs up the phone and I put it back in my pocket after a moment of hesitation.

So that happened.. Time to relay the message that I'm going now.. But first I need to gather my things.

I grab some pajamas from my drawer, my toothbrush from the bathroom, deodorant, and an extra shirt for my uniform, and then I stuff everything In my school backpack along with a few books that I will be needing tomorrow.

Completely packed, I knock on my sister's doorway to get the two girl's attention.
