"Then don't go" Ezra whispered, looking me in the eyes. I knew he wasn't in his headspace anymore and the fact that he still didn't want me to go warmed my heart.
I stood up with him in my arms and held him close to my chest. He laid on my shoulder, gripping the back of my shirt tightly.
"Want Leon?" I asked, grabbing his stuffed lion. "No," He whispered. "Just my paci" I knew he was talking about his Lion pacifier.
I nodded, even though he couldn't see me, and grabbed the pacifier from the drawer on his changing table. "Here you go baby" I handed it to him. He put it in his mouth as well as taking his lion from my grasp, guess he wanted Leon after all.
"Let's go ask Manda if I can stay another night"
I felt the little nod against my shoulder, putting a smile on my face.
Amanda was sitting in the living room on her phone and looked up when she heard us coming.
"Me and this little dino wanted to know if it would be alright for me to stay one more night"
Ezra hid his face in my neck, and I could feel him smiling a little bit.
"Of course! That would be great since I have to go into work again tomorrow"
"Yay" Ezra whispered quietly around his pacifier, making me grin. I knew he was still big, but he was still just as adorable.
"I'm going to head to bed" Amanda voiced as she stood up from the couch. "Don't let this little one stay up too late. And no sugar" She ended her sentence by pointing a finger at me with a stern look on her face.
"I won't give him any sugar" I promised. Amanda nodded before saying goodnight and heading up to her room.
"Ezzy," I sat on the couch and moved him, so he was sitting beside me. He looked up at me with his big brown eyes and my heart nearly melted. "Yeah?" He asked quietly. His pacifier now clutched in his hand. "I'm not going anywhere, okay?" I put my hand on his cheek. "I promise you that"
He nodded softly and leaned into my hand as he closed his eyes. "I really like you" He whispered so quiet that I barely heard him.
"I really like you too, bug" I whispered back and kissed his forehead. He smiled with his eyes still closed and we sat like that for a while.
Him with his cheek pressed against my hand and me admiring every little thing about him.
The way his eyelashes casted little shadows over his cheeks. The little curve at the tip of his nose. His little rosy cheeks. The brown fluffy hair on the top of his head.
I began smiling as I imagined washing his hair and giving him silly hairstyles with the shampoo. Ezra moved his hand up, so it was on top of mine before opening his eyes. "I'm sorry about last night" He said quietly.
"I... I was scared" I frowned and brushed some hair off his forehead. "Scared of what, lovebug?" He casted his eyes downward for a few seconds before speaking. "I was scared.. Of you being my caregiver.. Because.. You might change your mind" His voice got quieter after each word.
"Why would I change my mind, Ezzy?"
In return I got a shrug and a quiet "Don't know" He closed his eyes again. "Just used to being rejected, I guess" His voice was barely above a whisper but those words broke my heart nonetheless. "Bug, I'm not going anywhere, okay?"
I hooked my finger under his chin and made him look at me. "Anyone who has ever rejected you doesn't know what they're missing, baby" I straightened up and pulled him into my lap. "You're perfect and I know it's only been a couple days, but I wouldn't trade you for the world, bug"
