The first day of training made Zalless nervous to be honest. For every minute she was here she was learning that she is indeed a newbie who has a lot to learn. Basically everything. She didn't let it hinder her confident mask.
With her new shoulder length purple hair, she got ready with the others wearing cargo pants and a white tank top, however, she didn't have her rank necklace yet. They met in a dark room and lined up, Ryujin following suit.
"Where is Mentor Hwang? She's never late? Winter?" Yuna asked as they waited awkwardly in the dark. Winter was the leader of their "pack" since she's the oldest and she's the Marshal's goddamn daughter.
"My mother informed me that Mentor Hwang had to go out on a mission with Striker Eureka. A Category 4 near the Philippines."
"Doesn't the Philippines have their own Jaeger program?" Danielle asked.
"Not their own program, there's only one program. They have their own jaegers but they were defeated by the category 4. It's Hajuka."
"So, we just stand here until she comes?" Ryujin questioned, finding it stupid.
"Yes, or until her sub-mentor takes over, whichever one is more available."
So they waited about 30 more seconds until the lights all turned on and they fixed their posture, waiting to see who exactly entered the doors so they knew who to address.
"Pilot Hwang, Mentor Hwang, Ma'am!"
"Good morning, Rangers. My apologies for being late to today's training session." The woman said, coming in as if she never went on a mission. Her hair was perfectly fluffed as always, and she was in her wrinkle-free uniform as always.
"How was the mission, Ma'am?" Danielle asked with genuine curiosity.
"Successful, Hajuka never reached the mainland. Everyone in the Philippines is safe for now. Okay, let's start with training. Ranger Shin, you'll go first with Ranger Lee."
Ryujin cursed the woman out in her own head for making her go first, she knew she'd have to go eventually but procrastinating never hurt anybody.
"This oughta be good." The one with the black hair and bangs, Winter, scoffed.
Zalless wanted nothing more than to kick Winter's ass into summertime, but she refrained. Not out of respect but because Winter wasn't worth her energy. She stepped up with Ranger Lee, and followed the younger one's lead. Soon, their mentor did her job and helped Ryujin into the Kaiju attack simulator.
"This is what the majority of your training will be, Ranger Shin. You will spend many hours everyday here. Every jaeger requires two pilots as the neurological hold is too much for a single pilot. Today you will start on the left side of what we call the heart of the Jaeger. Obviously, you're not in a real jaeger, this training session is only a realistic simulator. This is your helmet and headset, you will receive commands from Marshal Kim, me, your partner, and our Combat Eye, Miss Choi. You are to follow every command that comes from one of those people in this headset. Depending what side you're on, you will have a nerve tether attached to your hand. It is this plate-like device right here. Put your hand in the top where the glove is."
As Mentor Hwang helped Ryujin get her hand into the nerve tether, she took note of how soft her hands are. She also noticed how thin and slim Hwang's hands are. Her hand is very slender, boney, and veiny. Her fingers are long and slim. She had no nail polish or acrylic nails either. Ryujin found it attractive how veiny her hands are.
"The nerve tether is what you will use to decide which weapons to enable on the left side of your Jaeger, you will also throw hits with this plate. The shape may seem obsolete, but it helps steady your hand and helps you target if your Jaeger has knuckle missiles, which nearly every Jaeger does. This suit is self explanatory, you are becoming the Jaeger in this suit. Whatever the Jaeger is hit with you will feel to a much less extent. Now, once I turn on the simulation and get it a ready signal from both of you, I will enable The Neural Handshake and The Drift, which conjoins you and your partner's brains into one, you will get a strong surge of memories during this. The Drift will determine the outcome of your fight. The stronger the Drift, the better you and your partner will fight. If you're with a person who you hate, you will most likely lose whatever you're going against, even if it's a scrawny category two Kaiju. For future reference, I recommend you and Ranger Kim never try to pilot a Jaeger together."
