Ryujin felt like she had been brought back to life, finally seeing Yeji again. She didn't want to leave her again, especially since she was so hurt. Yes, she was in good hands, but Ryujin wanted to keep her safe too.
Through the recovery process, Yeji was told she would never be able to pilot again. What a slap to the face that was, she didn't think it hurt her brain that bad, but she heard it happen before with a past Marshal. He piloted a jaeger alone since he lost his partner mid-combat, and couldn't go into a jaeger again without it killing him.
It still felt like she as a pilot was being erased, she was done for. No one would ever see her in a jaeger again, and none of her designed jaegers survived the mega kaiju attack either. She wondered if any of them did. She heard that a couple Mark 6 Jaegers made it back function-able, but not in one piece.
Perhaps now she could just focus on designing Mark 7 and 8 jaegers, moving the generation along into something new and more effective.
Of course she still thought about work on her forced time off, she only didn't when she was visited by her old rangers. Seeing them made her so happy. She wanted to cry when she saw all of them for the first time in nearly a year. She noticed how every single one of them changed.
Winter is her own person. She didn't mention her mother once, she's fully a team player. She's maturing beautifully, founding her own ways to lead her team rather than just copy her mother.
Danielle was still so bright, happy, and uplifting. Very optimistic as well. But she's much more wise, she has many stories to tell, each one with a great lesson behind it. She refers to herself to other people to help them feel like they aren't alone. She's growing up charmingly.
Yuna wasn't as bright and poppy as she used to be, she was still cheeky, but she seemed to be finding her true nature. Perhaps before, she liked acting cute because she was younger, but now, she's lost a lot and she's maturing into a full grown woman. Yeji knew she would go far, she's kind, but confident, she won't get taken advantage of. She won't let herself.
And Ryujin. Yeji couldn't help but notice that Ryujin looked sad. She just didn't look happy, not until she saw her. She looked tired and overworked. She still had on Chungha's necklace and had a tattoo to represent both her and Chaeryeong. She could feel Ryujin's pain when they touched each other for the first time. Ryujin may have moved on from losing Chaeryeong, but it doesn't mean she's okay. She definitely wasn't okay with being apart from Yeji. But Yeji didn't only focus on how Blue Ryujin was. She saw that Ryujin was full of the one thing she lacked when she arrived, respect.
She was full of respect, giving it and receiving it. She treated everyone the way she wanted to be treated rather than the way she was treated her whole upbringing. Like a burden. That was truly beautiful for Yeji to see.
They would never know how happy she was to see them, words were said, but that didn't mean it justified her feelings. She literally would have been okay with dying right then and there. That's how happy she was.
She wondered how Chaeryeong would have matured. She was on track to become a pilot by now for sure, she would have caught up from her month suspension and got her head in the game. She would've changed the world.
Earning visits from the girls every day, they went from visiting her one at a time in the ICU to visiting her all at once in the regular patient rooms. On Christmas Day, they visited after celebrating with Ryujin's parents.
First, they walked around the hospital with her, she was getting stronger every day. Secondly, they returned to her room, got her back in bed and did gifts.
They shared gifts, telling Yeji not to worry about not having anything for them. Winter got her a tablet where she could store all of her ideas for new Jaegers, Yeji had mentioned needing one. Yuna got her a bunch of comfy clothes and blankets. It was all black too, fitting just to Yeji's taste. The clothes were designer, made for comfort and warmth, and the blankets were different kinds. Some heated, some weighted, some simple throws, some both heated and weighted, and even a messaging one. Then she also gave her a bag full of vitamins and skin care products she recommended for her skin.
