Ryujin stumbled in the halls not ready to go back to her quarters yet. The empty dark halls were eerie, but she wanted to explore a bit before going off to her quarters.
She adored how quiet the place was at night, but preferred the hassle of everyone working during the day. As a kid, she had megalophobia, the fear of large objects. She was never afraid of things like skyscrapers, but seeing a ship propeller or the bottom of a spaceship utterly freaked her out. She thought she got over it, but froze in her tracks when she accidentally explored into the Jaeger workshop, where all the Jaegers rested in between missions.
She wasn't aware she was in the workshop, she mistook the right foot of Crimson Typhoon as a giant wall at the back of the room. Here she was, in a room full of the machines she saw growing up on TV. The machines that carried the strength of the world. She wondered how powerful it felt to be in one. "No wonder you have to be incredibly humble in order to be a pilot." She whispered to herself.
She began walking around, seeing that the room seemingly went on for miles, piled with Jaegers. The better ones were at the front, ready for any moment that they are needed. Ryujin recognized them, she had to take a class on Jaegers and picked up the names quickly. Gypsy Avenger; initially known as Gypsy Danger, Striker Eureka; the one with the same name as that one vacuum cleaner brand, Crimson Typhoon and Brazor Phoenix; the three man rings but Typhoon has three arms while Phoenix has two, and Saber Athena; named after the goddess of war, the only one with color. She's a bright orange, designed to resemble a luxury sports car and an insect. Definitely designed by a woman.
Ranger Shin walked around, reading the plaques in front of each Jaeger, she noticed that on Saber Athena and Gypsy Avenger there were "wounds". Athena had scratch marks on her chest and it seemed as if she had more work done for other wounds, Ryujin wondered what killed Yeji's sister. She wondered that since they were Drifted together, if Yeji could feel Chungha's death and hear her thoughts as she was dying...
It terrified Ryujin.
Not only must pilots be humble, they must be brave.
She looked up to Gypsy Avenger, seeing the damage done to it most likely from the Philippines mission.
Zalless read the plaques, realizing each one stated the name of the Jaeger and the team of designers and engineers. Saber Athena's plaque stated that Pilot Hwang Yeji was the only designer, while the list of engineers was much longer. Ryujin smirked, pleased that her mentor has good Jaeger style.
Soon, she walked outside of the workshop to the fresh air outside. Like a giant terrace, where Ryujin had landed two days before in the chopper, Ryujin walked on the concrete until she got to the fence that separated her from the dark ocean.
She took in the scent of the saltwater and the dark abyss. It was scary, looking into the void that darkness created, but it fascinated Shin. She knew things were there, but she couldn't see them. Interesting.
She closed her eyes, holding the fence and relaxing. She inhaled and exhaled, letting out a low groan as she did so, but it was accompanied by another groan.
A much louder one coming from somewhere in front of her, it sounded distant...
She opened her eyes, suddenly wanting to go back inside. But maybe she was spooking herself out. Or she got sweat in her ear, so her hearing is distorted.
But she saw a light blue light flash under the water, not like a submarine. It was different. Her heart dropped as she realized what it could be, she didn't even notice the sirens blaring through the speakers and officials rushing out of bed to catch the Kaiju that was sensed by temperature sensors.
