After waiting for five long months, One Direction was finally coming to a town near where I live. The signing was today and I had to leave in an hour to get there early enough to get a good spot in line. I was tossing the clothes around in my closet. I’ve never been the type of person to pick out their clothes the day before because I always end up changing my mind last minute. Finally I decided on a white shirt that tied on the bottom, red skinny jeans, a black and white beanie, and a feather necklace. I rushed to the bathroom to do my makeup, which didn’t take long because I don’t wear much. I looked at my hair. For some reason, I always wake up to have perfect beach waves, and since my hair was quite long, I decided to pull my bangs back to show my face a little more. My bright green eyes stared back at me in the mirror. Just one more day, I told myself. I quickly shook the thought out of my head because if I kept thinking of it, my mind would wander into darker places, and today was going to be a good day. I looked at the clock which flashed 1:50am. I only had ten more minutes so I quickly painted my nails a bold blue, then headed out the door with an orange envelope, my black leather jacket, and my old pair of black boots.
The roads seemed empty as I drove to the mall where the signing was going to be held. I looked at the orange envelope sitting on my lap. I started to get nervous, this envelope has all my secrets in it, and I was about to give it to Niall Horan. Why? You might ask, well because he was my inspiration that kept me going this far, and I wanted to thank him for it. But I needed to explain to him exactly why I was thanking him for it, and to do that, I had to tell him my secrets that I’ve kept for the past three years that nobody else knew about. I pulled my jacket over my wrists to cover up the evidence of years of hate, bullying, and loneliness.
When I arrived at the signing, there was already about two hundred fans there. I received a bracelet and was ushered to a waiting line. The mall that the signing was held in was open all night for fans to come wait in line until One Direction was supposed to show up around eight in the morning, so I had about five hours to wait still. All the other fans were sat on the floor with pillows and blankets, most of them were huddled in groups talking about their excitement over meeting their favorite band member. I moved over to a wall where I could sit against and put in my earphones to listen to music.
Around eight, one direction music started blaring in the mall. All the fans stood up to get the first glance of the boys as they were ushered towards a stage with a table that was set up for them to sit at. I stood up and brushed the dirt off my pants, when I looked up I caught a glimpse of Niall smiling and waving at the huge crowd that had gathered, then finally taking a seat. The other boys did the same, sitting in an order of Louis, Harry, Zayn, Niall, and then Liam at the end. The line quickly started moving and I began to get even more nervous.
Girls were shoving each other more and more as they got closer to the table where the boys sat at. Most of them had their cameras out and were filming the boys as they signed their CDs, trying to record their few seconds of meeting their idols, while begging for a hug or at least a high-five. I gave a man my Cd, and was pushed up onto the stage. The girl in front as well as behind me were bumping me, almost pushing towards the edge of the stage. The girl ahead of me got Louis’ attention by asking about Eleanor. “She’s great, babe” he replied. I passed by Harry and Zayn then, saying a quiet hi even though they were talking to another girl. I bet Niall won’t notice me either, I thought to myself and started to panic, I was way too shy to shout or say something out there that would catch their attention. Just at least give him the envelope, that is the main reason you came here.
A girl behind pushed me forwards, knocking me out of my thoughts and putting me right in front of Niall. He looked up at me with a soft smile and I froze. Everything froze, my thoughts, my body. “Hey babe” he said and grinned. His voice seemed so open, inviting almost, and he was looking at me like he was interested in anything I would say. I shoved the orange envelope in front of him, “can you read this please? It’s important to me.” He looked at me questionably but went to grab the envelope. Just then, the girl behind me was pushed back, she grabbed onto my arm, the one holding the envelope, and pulled the sleeve up trying to catch herself. She fell to the ground and the security came over to help her up. I looked back at Niall, who was staring at my wrist, his smile faltered as he noticed the dark scars that ran all the way up my arm. I quickly pulled my sleeve down, feeling my cheeks burn. I dropped the letter onto the desk and pushed my way through the mob of girls to the exit of the stage. Once I was away from the stage, I turned into a small hallway that led to the bathrooms and leaned against the wall. My heart was pounding. He wasn’t supposed to see my scars, no one was, no one has. Relax, I told myself and took a deep breath, it won’t make a difference, he sees fans with scars a lot I bet, and he won’t have time to read the letter for another few days, if that, and by then it will be too late anyways.
