Band Practice

Selene strummed a tune on her guitar and frowned at how it sounded before beginning to tune it. Skye played a few keys on her keytar while Vela strummed her bass. Callisto tapped out a beat on her drumset and Juno sang a few scales to warm up. Maia was laid back on a couch, writing in her notepad. Halo sat next to her, sketching down outfit ideas. It had been a few weeks since the girls had found the Wish-House. Ever since then, they had been making regular trips back whenever they could find the time in the hopes that maybe today would finally be the day that they could get started on their mission. Alas, it had been disappointment after disappointment. None of the twelve Wish Orbs sparkled like they did when a wish was ready to be granted.

The little glimmer of hope the girls had been nursing inside their chests that maybe, just maybe they'd be able to see home again had rapidly begin to die out. The girls had decided to distract themselves, following advice Faye had relayed to them from her mother. The same advice Miss Wright had unknowingly reinforced when she had noticed how down the girls were.

"A watched pot never boils." Miss Wright had said, and the girls had decided to follow that advice to the letter and distracted themselves with other activities. Rhea had decided to tryout for one of Riverview High's sports teams. Estella had decided to check out a mystery book series that Mindy had recommended to her. Faye signed up for Home Ec classes and Nova- well, the other girls weren't too sure what Nova was doing exactly. One week, she'd be off to art club and the next week, she'd be in film club and the week after that, sewing club. Apparently, Riverview High allowed students to try clubs on a one week trial basis, though that was up for extension, so they could find the one club that really caught their interest. Nova seemed to be taking advantage of that rule. And since Riverview High had two thousand and five hundred students with a plethora of diverse interests, Nova had no shortage of clubs to choose from.

Lyra had joined a poetry club and Halo had joined the school's science club. Vela, Selene, Skye, Juno and Callisto had thrown themselves into focusing on the band and dedicating every minute to practice when they weren't focused on homework or clubs. Maia had been busy coming up with new songs for the band. Every year, Sushi 4 U had tryouts for bands to be added to the roster. Selene, Callisto, Vela, Maia, Juno and Skye had all collectively decided to sign up. Halo had decided to dedicate whatever spare time she had to designing outfits for Juno, Callisto, Selene, Skye and Vela for the upcoming tryouts.

All in all, the girls had been very busy and distracted from wondering when the Wish Orbs would be ready. In fact, they had been so distracted, that none of them had had a chance to properly digest the fact that they were the ones all of Vis was relying on to save it. The interior door to the garage opened and Miss Wright poked her head in.

"You girls ready for lunch?" Miss Wright asked. Vela looked up from her bass strumming.

"I could eat." Vela said. Miss Wright looked to the other girls.

"What about the rest of you?" Miss Wright asked. Maia, Halo, Selene, Skye, Juno and Callisto all nodded.

"I'm actually pretty hungry." Selene said. Skye blushed as her stomach rumbled.

"Me too." Skye said.

"Got any water?" Juno asked. "I gotta stay hydrated." Miss Wright nodded.

"Cold or room temperature?" Miss Wright asked.

"Cold." Juno answered. Miss Wright nodded and went back in the house. She came back a few minutes later with a plate full of spinach and artichoke grilled cheese sandwiches and a pitcher of lemonade, seven plastic cups and a bottle of cold water on a tray. She set the tray down on a coffee table in the center of the garage and handed Juno the bottle of water.
