It turned out that Jungkook was wrong. It wasn't going to be a long two months because a month had already passed by in the blink of an eye. Each day had melted into the next, the seven of them living their best lives every single day doing what they loved to do best, which was spending time together. They went swimming, hiking, fishing, flew a kite because you know why not.
Currently the seven of them were squished together into the SUV making a grocery run because the seven of them had already bulldozed through their food supply. Instead of going back into their town they had decided to go to the closest one to the lake house. It was a smaller town than their own, but they'd be able to replenish their supplies, which was all that mattered. Thirty minutes later give or take they were falling out of the SUV. Jungkook was grateful to be able to stretch his legs once more.
The seven of them headed into the little grocery store two empty carts being pushed by Yoongi and Seokjin. Their group split into two groups with himself, Taehyung, and Namjoon following Yoongi and the others, Jimin, and Hoseok going with Seokjin. Jungkook didn't really care what they ate and said so when asked by Yoongi. Jungkook wasn't as picky as Taehyung. So Jungkook mostly just followed behind his friends lost in his thoughts which were consumed by Jimin as usual. Except lately it has been worse.
Jungkook on multiple occasions by this point had woken up to find himself wrapped around Jimin or Jimin wrapped around him. Jimin never said anything about it one way of the other so Jungkook didn't either. But fuck if it wasn't killing Jungkook inside because it was basically taunting him of what it would be like if Jimin was his. Jungkook knew that once they left the cabin by the lake for university they would be in separate beds and if Jungkook were honest with himself it wasn't what he wanted. Jungkook had been finding it harder and harder to resist reaching out and making physical contact with Jimin lately, something he had always tried his best not to engage in.
"Excuse me?"
Jungkook looked to his left, a soft voice pulling him from his spiraling thoughts. His eyes met those of a girl around his age much shorter than him with dark eyes and hair that cascaded down her back.
"Sorry to bother you. Do you think you could reach something for me?"
"Oh. Sure, of course." Jungkook replied stepping towards the girl. "Which one did you want?"
"That one." She pointed to the cup of noodles on the very top shelf.
Jungkook reached up with ease and grabbed the brand she'd pointed at and handed it to her.
"One more?" She asked holding up her index finger.
Jungkook chuckled at how cute and shy she looked while asking for an additional one. Jungkook grabbed it and handed it off to her.
"Thank you. I really appreciate it."
Jungkook shoved his hands in his pockets, "it's not a problem."
"I haven't seen you around here before. Are you visiting?"
"Oh, yeah. I'm staying with my friends at the cabin on the lake. It's our last hurrah you could say before we all head off to university."
"Really? That sounds fun." She smiled. "I'm Jieun by the way."
"Jungkook." He smiled in return.
Jungkook fell into an easy conversation with Jieun as he continued walking the aisles with her grabbing things, she couldn't reach for her when needed. Turned out that Jieun was going to be going to the same university as him and Jimin. On top of that, Jieun was even going to be in the same art program as him.
"Jungkook?"
Jungkook looked down the aisle and spotted Jimin.
"Hey Jimin." Jungkook walked down the aisle with Jieun towards Jimin who had his eyes trained on Jieun.
"We are leaving but couldn't find you." Jimin spoke out eyes glancing between the two of them.
"Oh, really?" Jungkook hadn't even realized that much time had passed. Jungkook ran his fingers through his hair and noticed that Jimin was staring at Jieun. "Oh, Jimin. This is Jieun. She is going to the same university as us. She's even in the same art program as me."
"It's nice to meet you Jimin." Jieun smiled across at Jimin.
"You too." Jimin smiled tightly. Jimin turned to face Jungkook. "The others are waiting. We should get going."
"Right." Jungkook turned to Jieun. "It was nice meeting you." Jungkook said walking backwards to follow Jimin who had already started to walk off.
"Wait." Jieun called out. "Can I get your number? I mean, it would be nice to have a friend when starting university."
Jungkook stopped in his tracks and jogged back to Jieun and exchanged numbers with her.
"I'll see you around."
Jungkook jogged back down the aisle Jieun calling out "you too" as he did. Jungkook when he exited the aisle ran into Jimin.
"Hey, sorry about that." Jungkook said falling in step next to him.
Jimin didn't respond, instead walked forward and out the exit. When they got to the SUV Jungkook opened the door for Jimin, but Jimin didn't get in. Jimin instead went around to the other side of the SUV and opened the door and pushed Taehyung over so that he was sitting in the middle. Jungkook just stared at Jimin who stared out the window with his arms folded against his chest.
"Jungkook, come on." Seokjin called from the front.
"Sorry." Jungkook muttered climbing into the SUV and closing the door.
As Jungkook buckled his belt he glanced at Jimin who hadn't budged from his position. For the first time since Seokjin had bought the SUV and they had ridden together in it Jimin wasn't sitting next to him. And Jungkook couldn't figure out why.
