Jungkook threw the car into park as soon as he came to a stop at the top of the graveled driveway, a fond smile pulling at his lips as he gazed up at the cabin by the lake. Jungkook opened the driver's door and stepped out of the vehicle rounding the front of it eyes never leaving the cabin as he stood in front of it taking in the sight of it. It hadn't changed one bit in all the time he'd been here last. The summer before he and his friends started university. Three years had passed in that time. So much had changed. Jungkook looked over when he heard the passenger door shut and his smile widened as he peered over his shoulder at Jimin as he approached him. So much had also not changed he thought as he reached out and wrapped an arm around Jimin's shoulders pulling him into his side. Jimin wrapped his arms around his waist and leaned up on his toes and pressed a kiss to his lips.
"Please tell me I'm not going to have to watch the two of you making out all summer."
Both Jungkook and Jimin turned around and found Namjoon grinning with Yoongi walking up behind him. Jimin immediately left his hold and bounded down the driveway jumping into Namjoon's arms which had opened widely in anticipation. Jungkook chuckled as Namjoon stumbled Yoongi placing two hands at his back which was the only thing that kept him upright as Jimin wrapped himself around Namjoon hugging him hard. Yoongi reached a hand forward towards Jungkook when he stopped in front of them. Jungkook glanced down at Yoongi's outstretched hand and shook his head with a grin before he grabbed it and yanked Yoongi forward into an embrace.
"Three years and all you offer me is a handshake." Jungkook chuckled as he hugged Yoongi. "Some things never change."
Yoongi grinned when they pulled back and Jimin attacked Yoongi with the same greeting as Namjoon but this time it was Jungkook that kept the two of them from falling over. When he was sure they were going to remain up right he hugged Namjoon.
"It's good to finally see you guys in person." Jungkook squeezed Namjoon's shoulder.
"I hope I get the same treatment as those two."
The four of them turned and saw Seokjin walking up suitcase trailing behind him peering at the four of them with such affection Jungkook couldn't help but smile. It grew as Jimin rushed Seokjin him following suit as the two of them crashed bodily into him. The three of them stumbled and this time they fell to the ground in a tangle of limbs and laughter. He'd missed his friends so much.
"Ooh, are we doing ground hugs?"
Jungkook laughed out loud when he felt Hoseok jump onto the three of them who were still on the ground hugging. They were all still laughing when Namjoon and Yoongi pulled them up one by one, all of them dusting their clothes off.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't our very own movie star."
Jungkook turned at Yoongi's words and saw Taehyung grinning at the lot of them.
"That's right bask in the glory that is me." Taehyung exclaimed as he posed dramatically with his hand behind his head and hip cocked out.
All six of them laughed as they crowded Taehyung smooshing him in the middle of a group hug.
Jungkook poked the fire with a stick and watched the flames lick eagerly at the wood that it enveloped burning brighter when he did. Jungkook satisfied leaned back in his chair and listened to his friends laughing as they reminisced about their childhoods and the shenanigans that they had all gotten up to when they were kids as they drank around the campfire they'd started up when it began to get dark.
"Nothing beats that one summer though. The one before university that we spent here." Jimin grinned glancing at Jungkook as he leaned into his side.
"Oh, you mean that one summer I had to listen to you two fucking like rabbits in the room next to me for the last week of it. To be honest, I was surprised you were even able to walk to the car when we had to leave." Taehyung teased.
Jungkook laughed as Jimin hid himself behind his hands groaning just as he had that summer that Taehyung spoke of when he'd found out Jungkook had let it slip that they were together.
"Come on. No need to be shy now." Taehyung teased further receiving a smack from Jimin with the back of his hand from him doing so.
"Oh my God! Can we please stop talking about us fucking?" Jimin begged, blushing furiously.
"Seriously though, I was so glad you two got your shit together that summer. It was painful watching the two of you pining for each other." Seokjin chimed in.
"God, I know what you mean. I was ready to drown the two of them." Yoongi motioned with his beer bottle at the lake before taking a swig from it.
"We weren't that bad." Jungkook defended the two of them.
"Are you kidding me?" Hoseok deadpanned. "It was worse."
They all laughed.
"Fine, fine." Jungkook grinned. "We were a mess."
"More like a fucking disaster." Namjoon muttered. "It was why we didn't believe Taehyung when he told us you two were together."
"Which is rich coming from him." Hoseok tacked on making all of them laugh again.
"Yeah, I suppose we were." Jungkook smiled in agreement as he watched Jimin with fondness as he stood up and stretched.
Jungkook shifted in his seat making more room for Jimin to sit back down next to him but that wasn't what happened. What happened was Jimin twirled around to face him and dropped down onto one knee and raised his hand in the air producing a gold and black ring pinched between his thumb and index finger glinting in the firelight.
"Oh, my fucking God!" Multiple voices exclaimed around them in varying volumes.
"Jungkook." Jimin started when the voices died down. "Our friends are right. We were a fucking disaster. We still are." Jimin grinned up at him. "But even so, I want to continue being a disaster with you. I want to continue doing everything with you because I can't imagine doing it with anyone else. Even being a disaster. So." Jimin bit his bottom lip nervously before releasing it. "Jeon Jungkook. Will you marry me?"
Jungkook sat there stunned for the briefest of moments before he surged forward yanking Jimin upward into his arms and off his feet crashing their lips together muttering "yes" over and over into them between kisses while their friends screamed around them in excitement.
Later that night as he and Jimin stumbled into their shared room tipsy from celebrating their now engagement with their best friends, Jungkook couldn't have imagined anything topping that one summer that he and Jimin got together. But as he and Jimin fell into bed clothes falling away through giggles and kisses only to tangle up in each other Jungkook should have known better. He was in love with Park Jimin after all.
