Chapter 11

Jungkook and Jimin sat in silence but after some minutes Jungkook scooted to the edge of the dock and dropped down into the water. By the time he came back from underneath its glittering surface Jimin was sitting upright with his hands curled around the edge of the worn dock peering down at him.

"Come on." Jungkook urged Jimin with a grin that turned playful at his next words. "Let's race back." Jungkook heard Jimin snort in disbelief above him. "I'll even give you a head start."

"How much of a head start?" Jimin questioned right before he too dropped down into the water reappearing above the surface next to Jungkook.

Jungkook watched the water ripple around Jimin where his arms were shifting back and forth keeping him afloat.

"Thirty seconds." Jungkook eventually grinned out.

"One minute." Jimin countered grinning himself.

In answer Jungkook began counting, "one, two, three." Jimin immediately took off swimming. Jungkook chuckled to himself as he continued counting, "39, 40, 41." As soon as Jungkook got to "60" he took off after Jimin his arms propelling him through the water like it was nothing.

It took less than thirty seconds for Jungkook to be within reach of Jimin. He saw Jimin glance back and laugh right before Jungkook grabbed ahold of his ankle and yanked Jimin back towards himself. The two of them laughed as Jungkook swam backwards with one arm dragging Jimin behind him with his other towards the dock where their race started. Before they got to it though, Jimin twisted his foot and slipped out of his hold and Jungkook watched Jimin dunk himself under the water and disappear. Jungkook immediately followed him under into the water. Jungkook despite the clarity of the water spotted Jimin a couple feet away from him underneath the dock floating just below the surface. Jungkook closed the distance between them grabbing Jimin around his waist and hoisted him up out of the water. Jimin's laughter greeted Jungkook as he breached the water's surface making him grin. Before his grin could overtake his face, it disappeared because Jimin wrapped his legs around his waist. Jungkook swallowed thickly the sound audible under the quiet of the dock when Jimin looped his arms around his neck and threaded his fingers up into the back of his hair pulling it gently forcing Jungkook to look up at him above him.

"Jimin?" Jungkook questioned when he saw Jimin's eyes dart down to his lips before darting back up to his eyes only to leave them again to gaze longingly at his mouth.

Jungkook held his breath as Jimin licked his lips lowering his face towards his at the same time.

"Jungkook! Jimin!"

Jungkook watched Jimin's head snap upward to look up above them where they could hear someone walking on the dock's surface. Jungkook who had been staring at Jimin followed his gaze upward when their names were called again from directly above them now by who he recognized as Taehyung. Jimin's fingers loosened their hold within his hair disappearing completely. By the time Jungkook looked down it was just in time to see Jimin swim out of his hold away from him and from underneath the dock.

"Hey!" Jimin called up towards Taehyung.

"There you are. Where is Jungkook? We are getting ready to eat."

Jimin glanced at him where he was still floating underneath the dock before looking back up at Taehyung.

"Isn't he over there with you guys?"

Jungkook felt his heart sink into his stomach as it broke apart into a million pieces. It was the second time that Jimin had pretended that nothing had happened between them. Jungkook felt his eyes burn. Before they could shed their tears he dunked back under the water and swam away from the dock for as long as he could underneath the lake's surface before having to come back up for air. As soon as he took a breath, he went back under, repeating the process until he reached the other side of the lake. Jungkook walked out of the water seeing everyone gathered around the table ready for dinner. But Jungkook didn't have an appetite. Jungkook felt sick to his stomach.

"Jungkook." Seokjin called. "Ready to eat?"

"Um, I'm actually not feeling good. I'm going to head up and lay down for a bit."

"Oh, okay." Seokjin frowned seeing that Jungkook did look a little pale. "I'll save you a plate in case you get hungry later."

Jungkook nodded his thanks and walked up to the table and said goodbye to Jieun's friends before asking to speak with her for a moment. Jieun nodded and followed him from the back of the cabin to the front onto the porch.

"Jungkook. Hey. What's wrong?" Jieun asked concerned seeing Jungkook push the heels of his hands into his eyes.

"I can't talk about it right now." Jungkook dropped his hands to look at Jieun. "But I promise you that I will. I just." Jungkook felt his eyes burn anew as his words failed him.

Jieun reached forward and pulled Jungkook to her embracing him. Jungkook wrapped his arms around her as she rubbed his back. He buried his face in her neck as his tears escaped unable to keep them at bay any longer.

"Jungkook!?!"

Jungkook pulled back from Jieun's hold when he heard Jimin call his name. He looked behind him hoping that Jimin wasn't there. He wasn't. He turned back around. Jieun reached up and wiped the tears from Jungkook's cheeks as Jimin called his name for a second time it's call closer.

"Go." Jieun spoke pushing him in the direction of the door like she knew he couldn't face Jimin right now.

Jungkook nodded and left Jieun on the porch and ran up the stairs up to his and Jimin's shared room knowing but not caring about the trail of water he left in his wake. Jungkook closed the door right as he heard Jimin call out for him from below the walkway. Jungkook hastily grabbed a change of clothes and bolted into the bathroom closing the door right as the bedroom door opened. Jungkook locked the bathroom door and turned the shower on. Jungkook stripped out of his clothes and stepped into the warm embrace of the water and let himself breakdown. Jungkook cried as quietly as he could with his hand over his mouth ignoring the knocking along with the calls of his name from Jimin on the other side of the bathroom door as he did.
