Doctor: "I'm sorry to say, but your son is quirkless."
Those words changed the perspective of one Izuku Midoriya, a five year old child. He was sitting next to his mother, Inko on a stool. He dropped the action figure of his favorite hero on the ground as he fought back tears.
Izuku: "C-can I-I still become a h-hero?"
The doctor looked down at him.
Doctor: "I believe so. It would just be much harder."
This made Izuku smile, he looked up to his mom who gave him a loving and encouraging smile.
Inko: "Thank you Doctor Garaki."
Doctor: "It's no problem. Now I suggest you two get going, I do have other patients after all."
The green haired woman nodded as she pulled her son's action figure to her hand. She gripped Izuku's hand in her other and left the room with him in tow. They walked put of the hospital and got in the car. Izuku buckled himself up in the back seat but before they left Inko turned from her seat and spoke up.
Inko: "Izuku. Do you really still want to be a hero?"
Izuku nodded furiously.
Izuku: "Yes! I wanna save everyone like All Might!"
Inko let out a small chuckle.
Inko: "Then I believe there's something I can give you once we get home."
The mention of a surprise made Izuku very excited.
---
It had been an hour since the two got home and Izuku was sitting on the couch, waiting as he heard Inko going through items in her closet.
Inko: "Aha! There you are!"
She then walked out of her room carrying a large book with a smile on her face. She walked over and placed the book on the table in front of Izuku.
Inko: "This will help you Izuku."
Izuku got up and walked over to the book.
Izuku: "What is it?"
Inko: "A book that's been passed down my family since before quirks were around."
Izuku looked at her amazed.
Izuku: "Really!? How will it help me?"
Inko: "It contains knowledge. Knowledge that, in the right hands, can be more powerful than any quirk. I tried it myself, as did many of my family but we could never get it to work. But I figureds ince you're quirkless, you should be able to use it."
She opened the book to the first page. At the top was the title of the book and Izuku read it aloud.
Izuku: "'Alchemy and Alkahestry: A Collection Of Knowledge. Author: Edward Elric.' What's Alchemy?"
Inko: "The knowledge hidden within this book. But you need to promise me something."
Izuku: "What is it?"
Inko: "As long as I allow you to use this book, you must never, EVER perform Human Transmutation. It is highly dangerous and is considered the biggest taboo within Alchemy according to the book."
Izuku nodded and smiled.
Izuku: "I promise!"
Inko: "Good. Now this will take a lot of time to work on and master got it? That means much of your free time will be used on this."
Izuku looked at her in confusion, making her sigh.
Inko: "No more All Might video."
This made Izuku upset, he'd have to give up his favorite video. Then he thought of something.
Izuku: "Can Kacchan still come over?"
She chuckled and nodded.
Inko: "Of course. I'm not that cruel. Now I suggest you start, and there's one thing you will have to memorize, okay?"
Izuku nodded.
Inko: "Always remember the most important aspect of Alchemy, the rule of Equivalent Exchange. To get something, something else of equal value must be given. Now go ahead and study, I'll call you over when dinner is done."
Izuku nodded and started reading. Inko sat next to him to help for a few hours before needing to get up to make dinner.
---
Izuku was sitting near the edge of the playground, a notebook and pen in hand. He had started practicing drawing Transmutation Circles, he didn't understand Alchemy yet but he would still need the practice. Then his best, and only, friend Katsuki Bakugo ran over.
Bakugo: "Hey Izuku!"
The green haired boy looked up from his notebook.
Izuku: "What is it Kacchan?"
Bakugo sat down next to him.
Bakugo: "I heard from the teachers that you're quirkless, that true?"
Izuku looked over and could see the concern in his friend's eyes. Although they were just kids, they had already seen how the world treated the quirkless. A kid from their class had to move away because her parents were being harassed because of her being quirkless.
Izuku: "Yeah it is. But don't worry Kacchan, I know how I can still become a hero!"
Bakugo: "Oh? What is it?"
Izuku shook his head.
Izuku: "You'll get to know when I can do it. I promise I'll be strong like you and All Might!"
He stuck his fist out and Bakugo did the same, giving him a fist bump. Bakugo stood up.
Bakugo: "You coming?"
Izuku shook his head once more.
Izuku: "I need to practice. I will tomorrow though!"
Bakugo smiled but sat back down to keep Izuku company. After a few minutes a kid with dragon wings on his back walked over.
Bakugo: "What do you want Horishi?"
Horishi: "Oh nothing. Just coming over to say hi to our resident quirkless freak."
Bakugo stood up and got infront of Izuku.
Bakugo: "Back off."
Horishi: "Hm, I don't think I will. Now!"
Suddenly an arm wrapped around Bakugo and another kid dragged him off.
Bakugo: "Stop this! I'll kill you if you don't let go!"
Soon they were out of sight and Horishi walked up to Izuku. He raised his hand, which had claws on them, and swiped down. Before his hand made contact a child sized fist launched him away.
???: "Leave them alone!"
Izuku looked over to see a girl with short orange hair standing there with her now normal sized fist still raised. Horishi looked back at her scared.
Horishi: "I'm sorry Kendo!"
He then ran away and she let put a breath. Suddenly Bakugo walked back over, dragging the long armed kid by the wrist.
Bakugo: "Who are you?"
Itsuka looked at him and smiled.
Itsuka: "My name's Itsuka Kendo! Who are you guys?"
Bakugo: "I'm Katsuki Bakugo!"
Izuku stood up and joined Bakugo.
Izuku: "A-and I'm I-Izuku M-Midoriya."
She stuck out both of her hands.
Itsuka: "Nice to meet you! I'm a new here, didn't think I'd ever see Horishi again!"
The two boys shook her hands and they spent the rest of recess hanging out.
