Shocking surprise

I stare at myself in the mirror and my fingers brush over the lipstick left on my cheek and my heart pounds in my chest. The feeling is foreign, but nice. My heart is racing and I feel my radiance pooling over and my hair stands on end.

Sparks start jumping and the power flickers and I hear footsteps running near "Tala what's going on with the pow-" Sunwoo freezes in place stares at me "Tala, your- your hair. I-it's glowing, and your uh eyes..."

I look at myself and she's right I'm glowing, I check my arms and the stuff Hazel gave my are holding. Slight blue and yellow hue, but, holding. "Tala, you-you are controlling it. H-how?!" I point to my arms and she slowly nods "hey what's going on down here..."

Ling stands looking at us and panic settles in on Sunwoo's face and I want to stop it but my body won't allow it. Ling rushes over and reaches out to me and I pull back worrying I'd fry her, Sunwoo rushes over and shakes her head at Ling.

"Let me." Her hands glow a teal blue and she rests them on my shoulders and my body relaxes and my heart rate slows down. All glow fades away and my head is clear and I can focus again on reality.

I look around trying to focus on what just happened, "Ling, what uh-" "radiant. I know you guys are as well. Tala, you are, unique. You don't seem to have the proper control of your radiance, yet you didn't lose yourself. How?"

I show my arms to her and she looks at the gift from Hazel and runs her finger over it "these are impressive. Where did you get it?" "Hazel, the girl that was here before." She nods "they are impressive, a lot of effort went into these to be able to control your abilities."

~~Few Days Later~~

*ping*

I pick up my phone and there's a message from Hazel:

Hazel: Just a day at the gym <3

She sends it with a selfie and my heart nearly stops, she has her hair up in a ponytail, sports bra and leggings. My eyes wander and stop on her toned stomach and my face heats up, I look over her percings running up her ears, the one on her nose shimmers in the light.

Her snakebites look amazing on her and her arms are toned, I set my phone down and bury my face in a pillow and groan. My phone pings again and I pick it up checking the message:

Hazel: Sorry, to much?

Tala: I, uh, nope

Hazel: Mind if I pick you up later?

Tala: Yeah, what time?

Hazel: I'll be there in an hour

~~an hour later~~

I'm fixing up my hair when I get a message from Hazel saying she's outside. I say bye to Sunwoo and head out when I see an SUV parked on the curb. I message Hazel asking where she's at when the unexpected happens.

I watch her step out of the back of the SUV and wave me over, "I could've drove, you didn't need to get an uber." She shakes her head, "it's not an Uber, this is my car." I look at her with a stunned face and she opens the door for me.

I thank her and get in the back seat when I see a window between me and the front. I'm confused when Hazel gets in the back with me and opens the window. "Alex, can you drive us to the mall." The driver-Alex nods and she shuts the window and sits back in her seat.

I stare at her for a second before I speak up "so should I ask about the driver or?" Realization seems to hit her and she nods "I work at a good business so I can have things like a driver. I hope it's not to much for you?"

I shake my head and relax in the seat and I can feel her eyes burning into me. I look over at her and she quickly looks away "did you need something?" Hazel looks back at me and looks me up and down before something clicks.

"How are these holding up?" She brushes her fingers up and down the metal plates on my arms and I respond "pretty well, they held up perfectly when you left last time." I feel my face heat up and I look away from her avoiding eye contact.

She sits away looking out the window and I look over to her and my mind races I look at her cheek in the same spot she kissed me and a dumb idea comes to mind. I slightly scoot closer and slowly just enough where I'm up next to her

I quickly lean in to give her a quick kiss on the cheek and of course, she turns her head. My heart stops. I quickly back up to the other side of the vehicle as I feel my radiance bubble up and I panic as it gets worse. My heart rate spikes and I feel my hair sparking, my eyes start to glow and all I zone in on is Hazel.

Her lips are parted and her hand is slightly raised touching them. She looks at me and I curl up making myself smaller and I hide my face not wanting to look at her. I'm a freak and everyone knows it, I fry everything I touch and I can't make friends due to the risk of killing them.

But I feel a hand touch my arm, I peek out of my hidey hole I made for myself and it's Hazel. I panic and try and pull back but I can't, there's a black and red substance covering my body like a half cocoon. I look at her hand and the same stuff is covering her hand.

I feel my heart slow along with my breathing, I feel her energy mix with mine and I slowly calm myself. I look to her and the cocoon and stuff around her hand is gone and it's just skin to skin contact at this point.

It's silent and us just looking at each other before I get the courage to speak, "I uh, I'm so sorry." She raises a hand and stops me before I could go on, "don't apologize, it was nice" I turn and look out the window and after a minute I feel warmth next to my face.

I ignore it as embarrassment but it stays and right as I'm about to turn around I feel those lips pressed to my cheek again. She lingers again before pulling back and I turn and look at her. She looks flushed and embarrassed, "you never cease to surprise me." Her heterochromic eyes focus on my and I can spot a little excitement in them as we park the car.
