Chapter five: The Scythe of Quakes

Father and I sat in the 'horse' carriage as the boys pulled us along the road to the caves of despair. Father was sipping his tea while I was playing with my purple yo-yo that I made myself.

'Sign me up.' Jay mocked Kai, 'Way to go, spark plug!'

'I sense this is some strange form of team building.' Zane said, making me chuckle.

'Just keep pulling. We have a long way to go.' Cole said, going slightly faster.

'Why doesn't Y/N need to pull the carriage? It's not fair!' Jay whined.

'Because I am a kid.' I sent him a glare, 'And here I thought you said you were a gentleman.'

'I was, and still am!' Jay said, turning to face me but ending up tripping and almost falling down flat on his face.

'So,' Kai said breaking up the tension, 'Where did Sensei find you three?' Oh this I'd very much like to know too.

'Let's just say if it wasn't for Sensei Wu, I don't think we'd ever been seen together.' Cole said.

As they continued to share how they met father, I couldn't help but zone out in my own thoughts again. Why was father so scared I'd see uncle Garmadon? I get he's the villain, but he seemed oddly concerned about me SEEING him. Ever since we saw the skeleton army, I have a weird feeling that he's hiding something from me.

'You're right! If it weren't for Sensei, none of us would-' Kai gasped loudly, bringing me back to reality.

'Shh...Stop! The caves of despair.' Father said. 'Samukai must be close to unearthing the Scythe of Quakes. Remember, do not use the weapon. For its power-'

'Yeah, yeah! It's too much for us mortals.' Jay cut in, ' Alright, guys. Let's chop-socky this lemonade stand!'

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kai already climbing down to ledge. Gosh! He doesn't even have a plan! He'll get himself in trouble!

I sneaked off the carriage and ran after Kai. The things I do for him!

'What are you doing?' I scolded once I caught up with Kai, who was behind a rock,'Do you want to get KILLED?'

'Shhh.' He put his finger to his lips, then pointed to Samukai. I noticed he was holding a map in his hands.

Just when we were about to advance in him, a skeleton spotted us and was about to attack us.

Luckily, my yo-yo I bought with me has tiny blades hidden in its sides. I clicked a button to activate the blades and threw it at the skeleton. The string wrapped around its body and trapped it. I quickly tied him up with a rope I found on its armor.

'What's the matter with you?' Someone whisper shouted behind us, making me throw my yo-yo at them.

'Ow! Hey!' Opps, it was just Jay.

'You scared me!' I whisper shouted at him, and untied him.

'Shh. Look!' Zane pointed at the map, now in a skeleton's hands.

I quickly threw my yo-yo at the skeleton and wrapped it around him. I yanked it towards us and pulled on the string making the blade on the yo-yo aim at his neck, silencing him.

'I didn't know you could do that!' Jay gasped.

'Everything can be used as a weapon. It just needs a few upgrades.' I explained.

I grabbed the map in his hands and saw that it was upside down.

'They're digging in the wrong spot, the map is upside down.' I gasped. 'The scythe is near!' I turned the map around and pointed at the correct spot.
