THE LITTLE GROUP of the first years waited painfully to get to Hogwarts. Every second is more awesome, seeing the big castle getting near by.

"Here we are! Off the boat everybody!" Hagrid said, stepping on a land, all the young children following his steps.

Melanie got off the boat with a little help from Leo, who held her hand.

Them and all the other kids walked after Hagrid into the grounds of Hogwarts, he lead them for the doors of the castle.

"Here they are McGonagall, all first years!" Hagrid said to a tall woman.

"Very well Hagrid, off you go to the feast" Professor McGonagall said to the giant man who nodded and walked away.

Melanie assumed that the rest of the school must already be there, in the feast. So she thought that this is where they are going.

But Professor McGonagall lead the first years into a small, empty chamber off the hall. They crowded in, standing rather closer together than they would usually have done.

"Welcome to Hogwarts" Professor McGonagall said. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses" She started.

"The Sorting is a very important ceremony because while you're here, your house will be like your family in here, in Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory, and spend free time in your house common room."

"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup. The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting." Her eyes lingered for a moment on Melanie, farrowing her eyes on her, Melanie could swear she saw a smile appears on the woman face.

"That's it, the cue, everyone form a line!" McGonagall said after the sound of the bell.

Melanie could feel the excitement coming through her blood as she walked along the other kids at her age after McGongall, she could feel the whole people at the great hall looking at her.

Eventually they made it to the end of the hall, standing in a group.

"Now when I call your name, you will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head" McGongall held the hat up so everyone could see it.
"And you will sorted into your houses!, Hhm" she cleared her throat.
