Chapter 15 - The Basilisk

Then Harry pointed out that Tom was hiding while everyone was in the open but he was hiding, which had the smile leaving Tom's face, which had Tom saying that Dumbledore had been driven from the castle at the mere memory of him which ticked me off as I walked up to him. "He's not as gone as you think!" I knew Harry had been trying to knock Tom off his proud perch and scare him but when Riddle started to say something music started coming from somewhere making Riddle whirl around to stare down the empty chamber, the music kept growing louder making it eerie, spine-tingling, unearthly and it lifted the hair in my scalp while making my heart feel like it was swelling to twice its normal size. Then as the music reached such a pitch that I felt it vibrating inside my own ribs then flames erupted at the top of the nearest pillar, a crimson bird the size of a swan appeared, piping its weird music to the vaulted ceiling it had a glittering golden tail as long as a peacocks and gleaming golden talons which were gripping a ragged bundle. A second later the bird was flying straight for Harry where it dropped the ragged bundle thing it was carrying at his feet then landed heavily on his shoulder as it folded its great wings Harry looked up and saw it had a long sharp golden beak and a beady black eye. Then the bird stopped singing as it gazed at Riddle while Harry and I looked at the bird stunned, "Fawkes?" but then Riddle noticed the sorting hat in Harry's lap but it was motionless, but the Riddle began to laugh, it was so hard that the Chamber bounced it around making it sound like there were ten of him. "This is what Dumbledore sends his defenders! A songbird an an old hat! Do you feel brave, Harry and Kaito Potter? Do you feel safe now?" Then Riddle started going on and on about random things like how we've went agaisnt him twice now had have won which had me rolling my eyes then he said that they longer we talk the longer we live but I knew there was a deeper meaning to it since Ginny looked paler and I could tell Harry noticed the same thing. "No one knows why you lost your powers when you attacked us, we don't know ourselves, but I know why you couldn't kill us, because our mother died to save us our common Muggle-born mother, she stopped you killing us. And we've seen the real you we saw you last year, your a wreck, your barely alive that's where all your power got you, you're in hiding, your ugly, you're foul -." Riddles face contorted then he forced an awful smile onto his face, "So your mother died to save you both, yes that a powerful counter-charm, I can see now... there is nothing special about you both...after all. I wondered there are strange likenesses between us, Harry and Kaito Potter, even you must have noticed were half-bloods, raised by Muggles. Probably the only three Parselmouths to come to Hogwarts since the great Salazar Slytherin himself. We even look something alike... but after all, it was merely a lucky chance that saved you both from me, that's all I wanted to know." I looked at him stunned since it was true we did look a lot like him, while Harry stood tense thinking Riddle would give him back his wand now but Riddles twisted smile was widening making me reach for mine while keeping my eyes on Riddle knowing one wrong move could end things. "Now Harry, Kaito I'm going to teach you a little lesson, let's match the powers of Lord Voldemort, Heir of Salazar Slytherin, against the famous Harry and Kaito Potter, and the best weapons Dumbledore can give him..." Riddle but he also cast an amused look over at Fawkes and the Sorting Hat then walked away I could feel the fear spreading as Riddle stopped between the high pillars and looked up into the stone face of Slytherin, high above him in the darkness, then Riddle opened his mouth and hissed but we could understand what he was saying.

"Speak to me, Slytherin, greatest of the Hogwarts four." I watched Harry wheel around so fast that he jostled Fawkes on his shoulder a little before watching as Slytherin's gigantic stone face was moving which horrified me as the mouth got bigger and bigger to make it look like a giant black hole and something was stirring inside the statues mouth something was slithering up in its depths. I could hear Harry backing up until he hit the wall so I moved over to Ginny so I could protect her, but the Fawkes took flight startling Harry but I knew that a Phoenix couldn't fight a Basilisk especially one this big but I kept my head down as it hit the floor before we heard Riddle hiss at the Basilisk to kill us. Then the Basilisk started toward us but I just threw myself over Ginny while Harry took off down the tunnels but tripped just before them but the Fawkes did something shocking she blinded the serpent. I could hear something happening but kept my eyes tightly shut before I heard a furious Riddle hissing, "NO! LEAVE THE BIRD! THE BOY IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU! YOU CAN STILL SMELL HIM! KILL HIM!" which had me confused as I looked over to see that it was blinded making me sigh as Harry took off into the tunnels with the serpent following him. It was moments later that he returned to sit down by me before I saw something glittering in the hat before motioning it to Harry who nodded going for it just as the serpent returned so Harry grabbed it while Riddle kept screaming at the Basilisk. "KILL THE BOYS!" The Basilisk lunged for us as Harry pulled out a sword from the sorting hat Harry but he had to dodge the first attack only to hit the wall of the Chamber and then the Basilisk attacked again but I got scared as I screamed out Harry's name worried. I couldn't see what happened after that but then I saw Harry come out from around the Basilisk which had me sighing only for pain to shot through me, which confused both Tom and Harry but then Salazar Slytherin showed up saying something. Tom then raised Harry's wand with it aiming at me taking me into his arms as he said a spell only for a piece of paper spat out of the wand, "Shit his magic core is breaking..." Harry kept asking how it happened but when Tom explained what had happened, "We need to get him Gringotts and get a Cleansing done quickly!" I looked up at him before Salazar said something before Tom told Harry about it but I couldn't hear anything very well right now and my vision was starting to blur but then I felt some of the pain ebb away as I felt warmth on my hand which had me relax a little. I don't remember much after that until I felt Harry's worry about something before muttering Snapes name knowing he could help before blacking out again but when I woke up again I was in the headmasters study in Harry's arms as he sat on a chair. I looked at Harry who smiled at me, "Hey glad to see your up." I smiled at him before seeing Ginny and the other's there hugging which made me happy, "What happened?" Harry gave me a quick summary of what happened keeping the fact that he had switched out the Sword of Gryffindor for a fake at Gringotts when we both got Cleansed along with Professor Snape since it showed he had spells and potions in his list to. He also had the goblins put a glamour on my Slytherin Lord ring so it didn't show everyone I had it, he even told Ron and them that he needed to take me to Madam Pomfrey before joining them there but he took me to Snape instead to get a Cleansing to help repair my core. Then I was being hugged by all the Weasley's confusing me before I heard, "You saved her, you saved our daughter thank you!!!" I sat there stunned as they did that before leaning against Harry again as Snape held out something for me telling me that it was to help me regain my strength which I knew wasn't true since he winked at us that only we could see. Then Harry told everyone what happened while I drank the potion but McGonagall seemed mad that we broke more rules to go and save Ginny, then Harry explained everything else stopping only when he had to tell about the dairy and leaving out what really happened with me. However Dumbledore asked about how Tom got there since his sources told him about being in Albania which had my eyes snapping to him furious, since he knew where he was but wasn't doing anything about it but then Mr. Weasley went asking about how Tom had been enchanting Ginny so Harry told them. "It was this dairy, Riddle wrote it when he was sixteen." Dumbledore said taking the dairy from Harry while saying Tom was brilliant to do that along with the fact that he had been the most brilliant student Hogwarts had ever seen, before he began to tell who Voldemort really was a fact that Harry and I already knew about since he had told us.

"Very few people know that Lord Voldemort was once called Tom Riddle. I taught him myself, fifteen years ago, at Hogwarts, he disappeared after leaving... traveled far and wide... sank so deeply into the Dark Arts. Contorted with the very worst of our kind, underwent so many dangerous, Magical transformations, that when he resurfaced as Lord Voldemort, he was barely recognized. Hardly anyone connected Lord Voldemort with the clever, handsome boy was once Head boy here." However after her parents asked about what it had to do with Ginny she confessed about writing in it only to get a lecture about it, before Dumbledore sent Ginny to the infirmary saying she needed bed rest as she left with before telling us that those who had been Petrified have woken up making us happy. The Weasley's, except Ron, followed Ginny up to the infirmary while Dumbledore said it was time for a feast and for McGonagall to alert the kitchens while she told Dumbledore to deal with us which he said he would. "You three will receive Spell Awards for Services to the school and - let me see - yes, I think two hundred points apiece for Gryffindor, but one of us seems to be keeping quite about his part in this dangerous adventure why so modest Gilderoy?" Then we had to explain about what happened to make Lockhart forget his memories which had Dumbledore almost laughing before mentioning that his sword before Lockhart mentioned about the one Harry had before Dumbledore asked Ron to take Lockhart to the infirmary. Then Dumbledore went on to his usual traide about how we must have shown great loyalty to him to summon Fawkes and the Sorting Hat down there which had Fawkes standing by our knees, then something nagged at Harry. Harry voiced it which I knew was stupid since we weren't like him since we didn't go nuts like he had, but then Dumbledore told us that when Tom had tried to kill us he placed a little bit of himself into us that night but I knew that was bullshit since we had a Beast Speaker ability. Then Harry said that we should have been in Slytherin but then Dumbledore showed us the side of the sword that had Godric Gryffindor inscribed on it stating that only a Gryffindor could have pulled it out of the hat but then Dumbledore told us we could leave but before we could open the door it opened for us.

We then headed down to the Great Hall for the Final Feast where everyone else was at which had Harry and I smiling as we walked in while nodding at our betrothed's knowing we'd have to explain this to them later on when we met to go to the Zabini manor with them to talk and get to know one-another better along with Harry and Draco who was going to the Malfoy Manor after spending time with the Zabini's so that we could get to know the Malfoy's as well. Although I knew we would have to make sure no one saw us going with them but apparently our betrothed's already had a plan set out for us as we stepped off the train at the platform they quickly grabbed us after Hermione and the Weasley's left which almost had me attacking him before seeing that it was Blaise. "You scared me I almost hit you..." I said leaning against him  wore out and not wanting to have to do any of this anymore since it was all driving me crazy I could also see that Draco had done the same to Harry before I noticed that the Dursley's were waiting for us which had me confused as I looked at Draco. "Didn't you say your mom got custody of us, if so then why are the Dursley's here?" That seemed to confuse him as well so we went and asked his mom about it but she was stunned as well before she went and talked to her husband about all this.
