ANGST + GORE

-
The plan was a complete disaster.

And you knew it very well.

Two days ago, the Knights of Favonius had led an expedition to hunt down the abyss order.

However, things did not quite go as to planned, the losses were worrying and drastic.

Lisa and Kaeya stood silently behind the door of Jean's office, internally debating.

"I don't know if we should tell her, Kaeya." Lisa whispered to her dark blue-haired colleague. "She might not believe us."

"I don't see any other way, Lisa..." Kaeya sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. "She might be even angrier at us if we hold it back from her longer."

"But we have no proof of her disappearance or return, Kaeya." Lisa hummed quietly,

"I'm telling her right now." Kaeya declared. "There is no other way. My apologies."

With that said, he knocked on the door, Jean's voice answering a few seconds later.

"Here goes nothing." Lisa thought to herself, as she breathed deeply, taking a few steps forward to follow Kaeya.

Jean looked up to her two friends, and noticed the worry on the librarian's face, as well as Kaeya's grave expression.

The Captain of the Favonius guard took out a roll of parchment from his waist and handed it to Jean, bowing his head down.

"Acting Grandmaster, news from Liyue have arrived." He declared simply.

Jean knew well something was the matter; Never would Kaeya call her Acting Grandmaster. And Lisa had worry written all over her facial features.

Carefully, she took the parchment in her hands and undid the seal slowly.

Greetings, Acting Grandmaster Jean Gunnhildr of Mondstadt,

Word has gotten through that one of the squadrons of the Knights of Favonius was gravely ravaged near Wuwang Hill in Liyue.

We are taking care of the situation for now, but if you may, please do send a messenger or subordinate to meet us near the location,

Our deepest respect and apologies,
Keqing, Yuheng of the Liyue Qixing,
Ganyu, General of the Liyue Qixing.

Jean paused for a moment, staring at the contents of the paper, her eyes filling with fear.

"Captain Kaeya." Jean began, quickly rolling the parchment and sliding it in the inner pocket of her cape whilst getting up from her desk in a panic. "Prepare a research team, we shall take our leave as soon as possible... !"

"Yes, Grandmaster." He said simply, before bowing to Jean and exiting her office in a rush.

"Lisa, your assistance is required for Mondstadt's surveillance.."

Lisa gave a quick nod; "Your wish is my command, Grandmaster."

Near Lisa, Jean grabbed her sheathed sword and swung it behind her back before running out of her own office and out of the headquarters.

As Kaeya and Amber arrived near the place Ganyu indicated hours later, Jean decided to meet up with the half-adepti.

"Thank you for making all your way here, Grandmaster Jean of Mondstadt." Ganyu said. "I shall be straightforward with you; it was a massacre."

"Is that so?" Jean said simply. She knew there would be so little chance to find you given the information Ganyu had just given to her. "A considerable one?"

"Yu-" Keqing whispered, for only the blue-haired woman to hear, as she subtely looked back at the Adeptus, nudging her lightly in the waist. And Ganyu was quick to react.

"Ah- my apologies, i shouldn't have been so brutal...." Ganyu said, nodding, slowly. "But yes- you could say so, Grandmaster of Mondstadt."

"Thank you for taking matters in hand, your highness." Jean declared in a rather deep tone, glancing back at Ganyu briefly.

"The Alliance is made for this kind of issue, Acting Grandmaster." The purple-haired Yuheng replied, before Ganyu could speak up.

"I found this." Xiao said simply, landing near the three warriors suddenly.

"Oh Master Xiao." Ganyu said, addressing a small head nod to him as he walked towards Grandmaster Jean - and Keqing in the process.

"I think this belongs to you." The adepti went on as gave the object to Jean, who recognised it instantly, her eyes wide. "It has the same shape as the one on your waist."

"Y/n's vision...." Jean whispered.

"It's still glowing, Master Jean." Amber said, over the Acting Grandmaster's shoulder. "There is still hope."

Jean said nothing and frowned for a short instant;

"Let's go." She said, squeezing your vision in her hand, promising herself not to let go of it.

Jean got going through the path Xiao had indicated, and she managed to find you a little while later.

She hurried to you, without waiting any further, seeing the tragic sight from afar.

Your back was leaning on a rock, you were in a critical state; your armor was completely shattered, and your white shirt was stained with the crimson red of your blood. The black pants you wore were torn at the knees and thigh areas, darkened at your waist from the bleeding open wound.

Blood ran down the left side of your face and a pit replaced the zone where your eye was supposed to be; you'd lost it.

Your Claymore weapon was shoved into the ground near you, several cracks appearing on the blade.

Blood pooled in your mouth as you difficulty spat it out, looking back at Jean, slowly.

"Oh.... h-hey Je- an...." You blurted out, coughing out dirt and blood.

"Y/n...." She managed to say, her eyes frantically scanning every injured part of your body. "What.... happened?"

"Dou... ble Am- bush....." You explained, breath hitching. "The Abyss.... we were fighting.... And then- the Fatui attack... ed."

"I'm... sorry, I won't-" You spat out weakly.

"N-No, Y/n... let's get you somewhere safe now."

"La... Sign- ora...." You went on, struggling more and more. "She.... got me-"

"Y/n, shhh...." Jean hushed you quickly. "Stop speaking."

You could spare the details to her. Jean couldn't care less. All that mattered for her was that you made it out safe.

To be honest, she didn't even want to hear everything. It wasn't important.

"She had.... another- transformation...." You said, disobeying your lover's orders. "I got... be-beat by her-"

"Y/n, please just..." Jean pleaded, tears pooling in her eyes, looking back at you.

"I lo.... ve- you-"

"Y/n, no- Can you... get up? We'll... get a team from Liyue, just- hold on, please...." Jean said, her voice breaking little by little. "A little longer....."

"I'm- sorry, _Acting Grandmaster,_ I... couldn't- fulfill... my duty."

As soon as she realised what happened, the Acting Grandmaster fell to her knees, her hands stained with your own blood, tears running down her face.

Kaeya and Amber stood a few meters behind her, the Outrider's face dug into the Captain's torso, as he watched his friend silently.

No one spoke a word.

The only thing that pierced the obnoxious silence was Jean's raw, pained, scream of despair that echoed through the Valleys.
