Looking in the mirror, I can't help but feel dissatisfied

Looking in the mirror, I can't help but feel dissatisfied. Something is off, and I can't tell what it is. I shuffle from foot to foot, frowning at my reflection.

"Cut it out, Nova. You look gorgeous."

I turn to see Lennon standing in the doorway of my room narrowing her eyes at me.

I huff a sigh, turning back to study myself, "Something's missing."

I see Lennon roll her eyes behind me, but she smiles and walks up to me, looking over my shoulder. Her face scrunches as she focuses on each aspect of my outfit.

"I think you look great, but this could definitely help."

Before I can say anything, she runs out of the room, leaving me alone again. I start to shift my dress around, wondering if it looks okay. I swivel my ankle, letting my sparkle studded stilettos catch the light, worrying they might be too much. I know it may sound stupid, but I feel like this is a big deal, and I need to look my absolute best.

I see Lennon peak her head back into my room through the mirror, but she doesn't come all the way in.

"Close your eyes."

I huff, annoyed, but I still follow her instructions. I hear her walk up behind me and feel her hands rest on either side of my head.

She whispers, "Open."

Lennon is holding up dangly earrings that sparkle perfectly in the light. I recognize them as the gift her boyfriend got her for Valentine's Day last year. They're extremely expensive Tiffany earrings.

I shake my head, "I cannot wear those."

She just starts gently taking out the earrings I already had in.

"Yes you can, and you will. I hardly get any use out of them."

I continue to shake my head, "Won't Brady get mad? He got these for you as a gift."

Lennon chuckles, "You think he remembers what he got me last year? He can't even remember my smoothie order I get every day. Plus, what he doesn't know won't hurt him."

I sigh and finally relent, letting her put the earrings in. Once they're in place, she takes a step back and we both admire my reflection. The earrings tie the shoes in perfectly to the outfit. I do a quick spin, admiring the bow at the nape of my neck holding up the backless black satin gown. My dark hair falls down in loose waves around my face, letting the stunning makeup Imogen did for me earlier be the star of the show. My dusty red lips curl into a smile as I realize everything came together.

I spin around and hug Lennon tightly to me, "Thank you so much."

She scoffs, "Of course, what are friends for? Now hurry and get your purse together, he'll be here soon."

My brows draw together in confusion," He won't be here, I'm meeting him."

Lennon's eyes go wide, as if she shared a piece of information she wasn't supposed to, "Erm, no you're not."
