My dearest Red: a story originally titled pasa by muntingpluma.

Thank you for allowing me to make this a poem my friend. :)

***

My dearest Red, I loved you so,
But tired of fights that shouldn't be so.

I said yes because I knew you cared,
Avoiding things that I never dared.

Now, nearing our wedding day,
You fell back into an old, bad way.

Starting fights, coming home with scars,
I let it slide, thinking it's not who you are.

But it only got worse, your nose began to bleed,
My anger grew, words I didn't need.

You wanted to explain, but I shut you out,
Didn't give you the chance to speak about.

Then one day, your mom called me,
Saying you're in the hospital, couldn't believe.
I blamed you, thinking it was your fault,
But I shouldn't have, my words too salt.

A week passed, and a text came through,
From your mom, saying my heart broke in two.

You fought for your life, not with your fists,
But with a disease that couldn't be dismissed.

You had leukemia, and now you're gone,
My heart shattered, feeling so alone.

I'm sorry, my love, for not believing you,
For letting anger cloud my view.

I met you because of the scars you bear,
But I never thought they'd lead to this despair.

I'm sorry, my love, I love you so,
And I'll visit your wake, this I'll go.

I'll talk to you at your final resting place,
And pray for forgiveness, as tears run down my face.

Thank you for reading my story,
In loving memory of my Red, my glory.
