I packed my bag for this sleepover. I dreaded it, which why I procrastinated and waited until the day of it. As I folded my clothes into the bag, I thought about how uncomfortable I would be. But I didn't want to punk out at the last minute. This time I would handle myself well. Especially with Chelsea. There wasn't going to be any running out or a fight. There were times when I wanted to hit Chelsea. I refrained from it. But if she ever threw her lunch on me, like she did with Devin, I will putting my hands on her. No hesitation. That's nasty and unacceptable.
"Miesha are you ready?" My dad called from downstairs.
"Not yet," I answered.
I scurried in the bathroom throwing all my essentials into my bag and zipped it up. With only two bags, I dragged them downstairs.
"I'll get them." He took them from my hands when I reached the bottom.
"Have fun at your sleepover," Bridget said.
I didn't answer her and shut the door.
I expected Chelsea and Naiya to already be there probably gossiping about me, but Ranea said that I was the first. She set up the living room. She had board games, card games, and video games. She also had makeup, hair products, and nail polish. On the table, she had a bunch of snacks and juice.
"Wow you really went all out," I told her.
"Of course. This is not just a sleepover. This a reuniting celebration."
"For who?"
"You and Naiya and you and Chelsea."
A laughed escaped from my mouth. It was unintentional, but I couldn't help it. Ranea crossed her arms.
"Miesha? This is a slumber party. I need us to have fun."
"Tell that to Chelsea. I guess since there is no guys here, Naiya should be okay."
There was a knock on the door. She mouthed to be nice again. I sat down on the couch and crossed my legs with a fake smile. Ranea just laughed but opened the door. It was Naiya. She came in with three large bags. Ranea hugged her. They were so excited to see each other. Ranea turned Naiya to me. Ranea told her the same thing she told me. She just nodded.
"Miesha," Naiya said.
"Hello Naiya."
Ranea made me get up from my seat. She made the two of face each other.
"Now why you don't you two hug it out," she suggested.
Both of us stood there glaring at each other. Ranea pushed us closer together. None of us surrendered.
"What happened between you two wasn't that bad."
Ranea had to leave us to answer the door. It was Chelsea. There was another girl with her. Chelsea introduced her as Yasmin.
"I'm so glad you are all here," Ranea said happily.
"Wait a minute." Chelsea recognized me. "I can't believe you decided to show your face since no one likes you."
"I'm here for Ranea. And only Ranea," I said.
"Good to know." Naiya shook Chelsea's and Yasmine's hand.
I tried to say hello to Yasmine. She hesistated and looked at Chelsea. She mouthed a no to her. Yasmine just walked past me. It showed again just how much power she had over people. No one had a mind of their own when it came to her. Which was why we couldn't be acquainted. I had my own thoughts and feelings. It didn't need anyone to control or manipulate me.
I was cool with it though. One day Yasmine may develop enough bravery to follow her own thoughts. Sometimes it's good to be leader even if it can mean being alone.
