Watching Ranea from a distance concerned me. I finally wanted to tell her about the possibility of Devin being involved with another girl, Melina to be exact, but she already looked distressed.
Her hair stuck out in different places in her loose ponytail. Despite it being warm, she wore a matching hoodie and jogger set. With her back against the locker, she mumbled a few words to herself. With a loud grunt, she kicked the lockers on the opposite side of hers.
Signaling that something was deeply wrong, I ran over to her dropping my purse. "Ranea, what is wrong?"
She almost bolted away from me leaving a great distance between us. She appeared frightened and jittery.
She banged her fist on the locker. "Damn Miesha. Don't run up on me like that."
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. What is it?"
"What's going on? Why are you acting so afraid. I mean just look at you."
She smoothed out the flyaway hairs, but they stood right back up. Then, she glanced at her trembling hands and buried them in her pockets.
"Nothing."
I peered into her eyes searching for answers, but she broke eye contact.
"Why are you so jumpy and irritated?"
"I said I'm fine."
A thought crossed my mind, and it made my blood boil. "What did he do?"
"Who?"
"Don't play clueless with me. You know who I'm talking about."
"Don't start this, Miesha."
"What did Devin do to you?"
"Seriously Miesha. What are you insinuating?"
"That he is the one who has you like this."
"You need to mind your own business."
"So are you not telling me?"
"There's nothing to tell." She glanced at the clock. "I have to go to class"
"We still have ten minutes before class."
"Leave me alone." She ran off down the hall.
I didn't like this feeling at all. Devin had to be doing something to make Ranea frightened. She looked terrible and was too afraid to even talk about. This was a serious situation. If Devin was hurting my best friend, I was going to hurt him. Ranea needed help before it became too late.
I was very worried. I picked up my purse from the floor, and this time I banged the locker with my fist.
"Damn, what that locker do to you?" Tony appeared from around the corner.
"Not now Tony."
"Want to tell me what was that about."
I pulled the strap of my purse back on my shoulder. "Nothing."
"I sure can't tell."
"Tony, I don't have time for this. What do you want?"
"Don't you want to have some fun?" He asked.
"I have fun."
"I'm talking about some real fun." He rubbed his hands together and wiggled his eyebrows. I just stared at him with a blank face.
"Hey lighten up. I'm just joking. What happened to you? I thought you were this fun girl. Was that just a one day thing?"
"Sorry. I have some things I'm trying to focus on."
