Evelyn was sitting in class drawing doodles in her book, listening to the teacher checking the attendance. "David Matthewson?" Mrs. Gerhard looked around, checking if he is present, and then noted him as absent. "Izuku Midoriya?..." the old woman continued the list, but Evelyn was already spacing out. His absence freaked her out. She tensed when she remembered yesterday's event. She hoped that he would be fine, or at least alive. The girl started to overthink, gripping her pen tightly so that her knuckles turned white. "Evelyn!" Her teacher called out, "Focus when I do attendance! I nearly noted you as absent." Mrs. Gerhard scolded. "Yes, sorry." Evelyn nodded.
"Evie, are you okay? You have been acting weird today." Her best friend was very concerned. "Yes, I am fine. I will be right back." Evelyn said blankly. With that, she left. She needed to get her head free.
While the black haired girl was gone, Nataliya turned to Katsuki. "Do you know why she is acting weird? You two spend a lot of time together, maybe you know if something happened." "Uh no, I dunno. If something happened she would probably tell you guys I guess." He shrugged. "Ah, I see okay." The blonde girl mumbled.
A few days have passed and Evelyn's attacker hasn't come to school yet. With every day the girl grew more and more anxious. "Evie, I need to talk to you." Her best friend said seriously, pulling her to a more concluded area.
"What is bothering you, Evie? I am worried about you." Evelyn was indecisive, if she should tell her friend or not. "I, I am not sure if I want to talk about it. You would think bad of me." She stepped away, wanting to escape this uncomfortable situation. Nataliya stopped, not willing to let that slide. "I am your best friend, Evelyn. You know you can tell me everything, I would never think badly of you. I promise!" She pulled her into a hug.
Now the tears Evelyn had held in, dripped down her face. She couldn't hide it any more. Her cheeks flushed and she started bawling.
After a few minutes she calmed down, still sobbing a bit. "So, wanna tell me now." her friend kindly smiled. "Yeah okay." She smiled bitterly, wiping her tears with her sleeve.
"You know our classmate David, he hasn't come for a few days, and I am scared that something might have happened." "Oh no. You must really like him that you worry so much." "Rather the opposite." She stated, shaking her head, "He confessed to me on Sunday and I rejected him. And when I went home he attacked me, he was upset that I rejected him." "He did what! I will fucking kill him." Her friend was furious. "What if he is already dead? I used my quirk on him, I tried not to hurt him to much, but I fear that he is hurt badly." Her friend had a shocked expression on her face, not knowing what to say. She was the only one of Evelyn's friends who knew her quirk and the danger coming with it.
"I don't think he is dead. If you want, I can ask his younger brother or is friends about his whereabouts." Nataliya offered. "You would do that? Thank you."
"Let's go back now, we still have ten minutes left. But first, let's freshen up, you look like a wreck." Her friend mentioned, and they both went into the bathroom.
"Is it obvious that I cried? Look, my eyes are so red." "Well, it would be hard to hide. We should join the others now." "Yeah"
When the two of them returned, the other five looked worried. Nataliya excused herself, deciding to find out where their classmate is.
"Are you okay, Evelyn?" Denise and Suzan were the only ones who dared to ask. "Yes I am fine."
Evelyn was relieved when the bell for another break rang, class was agonizingly boring. Also, she was nervous about the information her friend collected.
They both went back to the secluded area, not wanting their friends to know what happened. "He is in a coma. I asked his brother, and apparently his internal organs are severely damaged." "Oh. And his family? Do they know what happened?" Evelyn wanted to know. "No. His brother said that David came home with a taxi, but broke down in the front yard. Also, his brother said that he will get better, but he won't attend school for the next months." "Oh I see."
"Oh Evie, don't blame yourself. You just protected yourself. What about, you go home earlier and talk to your mom." "What about Katsuki, do you think he would be mad?" "Why should he be. I don't think he would mind taking the train by himself." "You're right. What should I tell my mom through." "Well, just tell her what happened. I know she won't be mad." "Okay."
With that, Evelyn quickly texted her mom and got her stuff from the classroom. "Thanks Natie. You tell miss Demirci, right?" "Yes. Text me when you're home." "Of course!"
