(A/N: Content warning: SAP
Look, most of you who are still here and reading expect this, you're used to how Y/N and Hermione work by now. But even by my normal writing standards, this chapter is sappy. I won't say much more at the risk of spoilers but just know. Within this chapter, within these words, is enough sap to make a tree jealous.
Also! I have been faithful to the books so far. But I couldn't not use the pink dress. The blue one from the books sounds nice and would definitely suit her. But Emma Watson just made the pink dress so iconic in the movie so I had to use it. It is the only time I will deviate from the books I swear (I don't, it might happen again, don't hurt me)Enjoy!)
'Well, at the very least I'm glad you're okay,' said Professor McGonagall, 'but that was reckless, Y/N. You bet an awful lot on being able to perform magic you've never done before-'.
'It's all reckless!' said Y/N indignantly. 'This entire thing is reckless! I did the best I could!'
'Yes but-' began McGonagall.
'Minerva please,' said Dumbledore sharply, 'Allow Y/N to finish.'
The three of them, along with Hermione, Ron, Harry, and Ginny were gathered in McGonagall's office. Y/N had just gotten to the part of stunning Potley using Snow's illusions. Harry, Ron, and Ginny had all looked impressed. Dumbledore had smiled warmly, but McGonagall was not convinced. She did however fall silent following Dumbledore's comment.
Y/N finished his story with binding Potley and then Remus bringing him and Hermione back to the castle before taking Potley off to the ministry to be arrested.
'Well, I am very impressed, Y/N,' said Dumbledore, speaking quickly as Professor McGonagall opened her mouth. 'You both showed tremendous courage and not only floored one of Lord Voldemort's best, but protected one of our own in the process with barely a scratch on you. You've become a very competent wizard, and I am happy you have proven my concerns baseless. You have my go ahead to continue investigating the Dominators alongside Remus.'
'But Professor-' began McGonagall.
'Minerva, if you have any genuine concerns as to Y/N and Hermione's abilities, I would be delighted to hear them. If, however, you are going to use this to tell me about how he is simply a child and should not be left to do these things, I would not. They too were my concerns, but not only has Y/N proven himself, but he has behaved with a level head and with a level of maturity I would expect out of a fully grown wizard.'
Minerva's face was hard to read, but a moment later, she sighed.
'Yes, of course. I do forget sometimes that he is not as young as he used to be. You did well, both of you,' she added, turning to face the couple. 'I'm proud of you both.'
Hermione's face flushed and she muttered.
'I didn't do much...'
Y/N held his mother's gaze before nodding.
'Very well, you may go. I will catch up with you soon to give you updates on Potley's status assuming Remus doesn't,' said Dumbledore and the five students trooped out. No sooner had the office door closed behind them than Ron spoke.
'Come on then, Y/N!'
'What?' asked Y/N.
'Show us the illusion!' called Ginny.
'Alright fine but not here. Come on.' Y/N led them down to the training room they'd been using and they stepped inside. Thankfully, it was empty, though this wasn't exactly new. The only other person who had ever used this room was Cedric, and even that was rare.
