~Two days earlier~

Merlin didn't like it. He didn't like it one bit.

Earlier that morning, after another bout of throwing up into the chamber pot, he sat himself down on the windowsill in Arthur's—their chamber and watched the world go by in the courtyard, waiting for the draughts Gaius gave him for the nausea to kick in.

Arthur came in at the same time as Merlin spied Uther and Lady Catrina getting ready to go for a ride and a picnic. He jumped a little when Arthur's arms came up and circled his waist, one hand going under his tunic and laying palm flat against his stomach. He relaxed into the hold and Arthur hummed contently, gently kissing Merlin's exposed shoulder. He was wearing one of Arthur's shirts and was very loose on him.

"I don't like her," he said breaking the silence. Arthur smiled against his skin.

"As you keep telling me." That was true, he'd been saying that same thing ever since Catrina and Jonas set foot into Camelot. There was something about them that rubbed him up the wrong way, but he couldn't figure out what, "Another one of your funny feelings again?" Arthur joked, though there was something about the way he spoke that showed he might take some of it seriously. Because usually when Merlin had as he put it 'a funny feeling' there was always something to go wrong.

"I'm telling you, she's evil," Merlin whispered, glaring out the window. Uther has a besotted look in his face, and it did not suit the king at all. Merlin's hand came up to rest on top of Arthur's, over the not-yet-showing dump.

"Don't be ridiculous," Arthur scoffed, his nose nudging at their bond mark, "Just because she likes my father doesn't mean she's evil," Arthur said, joining him in gazing out the window, his cheek against Merlin's. His hand absentmindedly rubbing small circles into Merlin's belly. Merlin couldn't help but sigh and sag into the prince's hold, his small ministrations turning Merlin to putty in his arms.

"Don't you think it's weird that he's falling for her so easily?" he said with a frown, turning his head to look Arthur in the eyes. He reached up and brushed Arthur's fringe to the side, carding through the soft, golden strands.

"Trust me, she'll never be more than a heat partner," Arthur purred, "not like you who is caring the future heir of Camelot," he turned Merlin around fully and kissed him deeply and lovingly, his hand not leaving Merlin's stomach.
