After hearing Rocky, I already had lost interest in celebrating my birthday. I didn't want to ruin everyone else's fun; however, they were here for me, for my birthday. Yet, I had to tell them to leave now. After all, Diana and Sarah were now rivals. I wished Danny was in front of me, I could have beaten him up for the way he had played to break our friendship.
"I will go out to end the party," I said. "Please don't start fighting," I added, realizing Diana could get angry again if Rocky said one more thing about Jerry.
"Don't worry," said Sarah. "I'll take care of them."
I hummed in agreement, and then I walked out of the bedroom.
I walked down a few steps. Then I stopped, looking at everybody happy, free of stress, enjoying the party. Their happiness made me smile, but the next moment, the smile vanished from my face as I realized my purpose of being here on the stairs. I wasn't upset that my birthday party was disrupted but for the friends and friends of friends whom I was about to upset.
"Guys!" I said, the voice barely came out of my mouth.
Nobody heard me.
"Guys!" I said a little louder.
Two guys standing near the stairs looked up at me.
"GUYS!" I shouted.
Everybody turned their head toward me. Someone turned off the music as well.
"To all of you, thank you so much for being here. I really appreciate your time. I'm so glad that you came here to celebrate my birthday out of your busy schedule. However, something serious has come up because of which I will need to end the celebration here. I'm extremely sorry for this inconvenience."
Some faces portrayed dejection as if they didn't want to leave as they were having a great time. And some others started walking out of the house as if they were ready to leave as if they weren't enjoying the party or as if they comprehended the seriousness of my situation.
While looking around, I saw Estella still standing at her place with her friends. She was looking at me. My eyes got locked with her. I wanted to have the best time with her tonight. Yet, unfortunately, it didn't happen.
"I'm sorry," I said, keeping my eyes locked with her, and now holding my ears.
She smiled and flanked her hand at me as if she was trying to tell me I didn't have to worry.
I smiled back at her.
She gave me a flying kiss. Then her lips fluttered. I'm not good at lip reading, but what I understood was that she told me to take care and meet her later.
I just nodded.
She turned around and started heading toward the door. My smile disappeared.
Slowly, one after one, everyone exited the house. And now, there was a complete silence.
I took a few more seconds to check if someone was still in the house. When I found no one, I said, "You guys can exit the room."
A few more seconds, and Rocky exited the bedroom, and after her, Diana and Sarah.
I walked down the stairs and sat on the sofa.
Rocky walked down the stairs after me and stood there.
Diana and Sarah walked down the stairs, and they came to me. First, sat Diana next to me on the sofa, and Sarah after her.
Now, Rocky sat on the floor straight to me.
"Why did you sit on the floor?" asked Sarah.
"I don't know. I just got a sudden feeling to sit here on the floor," said Rocky. He looked around on the floor, and then he said, "Believe me, I like it here."
"All right," said Sarah. "As you want!"
