Eddie's NarrativeAfter getting home late last night, Rowan was acting really weird, but she wouldn't tell me why. I asked and asked but she said she was just tired and she was 'fine'. No, I know my baby, she's not fine.
But, if she wants to tell me, she will, right now I have to focus on making this the best Valentine's Day ever, just like every year.
I try to wiggle out if Rowan's death grip, even though she's asleep, she won't willingly let me go, so days like this, when I want to surprise her is hard.
But, finally, I get out, quietly tiptoe out of the room, and walk into the kitchen. I grab the cook book I have for special occasions, because I'm not good nor do I like cooking, and flip to chocolate chip pancakes.
I grab the supplies from the pantry, and milk and butter from the fridge, moving as quickly as I can because no matter how early or late, Rowan will wake up if she doesn't feel me beside her.
Pouring in the chocolate chips and stirring, it doesn't look that bad, I always make pancakes for Valentine's Day breakfast, so I know if it looks bad or not from the start. I grab a skillet and pour a little of the batter in it.
I search in the drawers for a spatula until I find the one I always use. I flip the pancake with the spatula, poke it with a fork to make sure, and plop it onto a plate, starting another one.
After making as many pancakes as I could, I cut up some strawberries, and grabbed the rest of the chocolate chips before pouring them into another pot. I cut up some wax, (I've made homemade dipped chocolate strawberries, you put some wax in a metal bowl with the chocolate and let it sit) and put that in the metal bowl also.
While they melt, I cut up the rest of the strawberries and poke wooden sticks in them. Then, I grab the plate full of strawberries with wooden sticks in them, and, one by one, dip them in the chocolate, while stirring it to keep it from hardening.
After I dipped all of them, I let them harden on the plate while I garnish the pancakes with whipped cream and left over strawberries and blueberries.
Perfect.
Then, knowing Rowan, I walk over to the freezer and grab the bacon. She'll definitely want bacon, I can just feel it. It's either that, or ice with salt on top of it, I just hope it's bacon today.
While the bacon sizzles on the skillet I hear noise coming from outside. Curious, I look through the kitchen window, nothing, the living room windows, nothing, and tiptoe into the bedroom, nothing.
Weird.
Anyway, I can hear the bacon popping, so I walk back to the kitchen and finish cooking.
After the bacon was done I put those on a plate, once the strawberries were hardened, I pulled the stick out and placed them around the pancakes, and got the syrup out of the fridge.
I, then, walk outside to, first check out whatever that noise was, and second to get her first present of the day out of the van.
It's a very cliché present, it's a big white teddy bear, but I know her mom wants her over more often, and I should let them have family time, so now when she needs cuddle, she can cuddle this Eddie sized bear. And one of my pet names is teddy, I thought it was a perfect idea.
