The Great Hall was dark, the only light coming from a few thousand glimmering candles floating above our heads.
"Where is he?" Fleur DeLacour groaned, leaning on me as the rest of the girls from Beauxbatons pranced into the Great Hall.
"I think I see him, he's over by the..." I trailed off, getting distracted.
Fleur's date, Roger Davies was standing by the punch bowl, talking animatedly with the Gryffindor captain.
He was very handsome, tall, brown-haired and Scottish.
"Where!" Fleur whispered harshly, tugging my arm.
"By the punch!" I snapped back to reality, glaring at my friend.
"Oooh splendid! Maybe you can dance with his friend!" she said, whisking us off.
I barely had time to register the flutter of nerves before we were standing by them, Fleur batting her eyelashes at Roger.
I looked around nervously, embarassed, when-
"Hello," said a deep voice, and a hand stretched out, reaching for mine.
"I'm Oliver Wood," he said, smiling down at me.
Fleur snatched Roger and dragged him onto the dance floor, poor boy's eyes glazing over.
"Um, I'm- Y/n," I said, shaking his hand. His palm was warm and calloused, and I flushed.
"Would you like to dance?" he asked, glancing at our two friends.
"Um, okay," I grinned, taking his arm.
He led me onto the dance floor, and spun me around, my periwinkle skirts flying up.
I laughed, grinning as he pulled me into his chest, and we swayed.
"You have a very pretty laugh," he said, and I could almost hear his heart thumping against his ribcage.
"Thank you," I whispered.
"Would you like me to be your official Yule Ball date?" he asked, and I pulled away, confused.
"You know, in case anyone asks," he shrugged, grinning sheepishly.
"I'd like that," I smiled.
That first glance at him had told me everything.
