The snow glittered on the pine needles of the trees in the forest.
Y/N glanced around in awe. A row of flowers hung from the trees, along with some twigs held together by pine sap, planted here and there like ornaments.
White flowers strewn together with pine needles were strewn across the trees like garland. They suppressed a giggle.
Wolf, it seemed, had taken the liberty of decorating the forest, because it was Christmas.
They knew that Wolf obviously couldn't go into town, so he must've made all of the decorations. They felt a bit sad, seeing how much work he did.
Did he do it all alone?
"Ah, there you are, Y/N."
They turned.
Wolf wore his striped suit, the fedora, and the strange little mustache twitched as he smiled.
They'd run into each other when Y/N had to take a shortcut through the forest to get home, and Wolf was eating some berries when Y/N came across him.
After a brief conversation, Y/N had left to go home, but soon came back that way every day after school since.
"Wolf." Y/N said, "Did you do all of this? It looks great."
"I had some help from the bears, but yeah, mainly by myself." He shrugged. He held out a paw, tipped with sharp claws.
"Come."
Y/N let him lead them to a small patch of tiny flowers. Despite the cold, they were still miraculously hanging on, still bright as ever.
"Would you like one? I just thought it would be nice."
"Oh, yes, thank you, Wolf." Y/N picked a flower, smelling it.
He smiled, glancing up at the plant nearby.
The truth was, he liked Y/N. He just never found the right time because something always happened whenever he tried to tell them.
One time a squirrel came running past the two of them when he was about to say it, and he'd ended up chasing after the little creature as Y/N laughed.
"When did you do all of this, Wolf? It's impressive, really."
Why were they so sweet?
"Oh, just about two days ago. I already had trees, so I just needed to decorate."
"You have more than one tree." Y/N added sarcastically, and he averted his eyes.
"Well, that's one less thing to do, isn't it?" He reasoned, watching as they gently held the flower he pointed out to them.
He wanted them to hold his hand like they held that flower.
Would it be weird to ask?
Why is this so difficult?
Y/N stared. "I'm impressed. You're creative, Wolf. You've never scared me, that's why I like you."
"I wouldn't hurt you."
Y/N came closer, still holding the flower. He straightened.
"I know. But.... weren't you lonely, doing all of this by yourself?"
He was.
Even though the bears had begrudgingly agreed to help out, he felt so annoyed seeing the mother and father decorate together.
Silently shoving it in his face that he was a lone wolf, and walked alone.
Y/N had to spend time at home with their family, baking, cooking, decorating, so for the past week he hadn't seen them.
But he was happy they were here now.
He waved it away, chuckling. "Who cares about that, it was still done in time."
"I care."
He stepped back, his fur bristling at the slight wind blowing through.
When had it gotten colder?
They stepped closer until they were face to face. They looked down before speaking, "I...think I like you, Wolf. More than a friend."
If he could blush, he would.
He'd have felt so stupid if they didn't, and then that flower would have been very awkward. He smiled, grasping their hand gently. "You do?"
Y/N looked to the left, their lips pursed. "Do you...maybe feel the same?"
Oh, you have no idea.
He slid a finger under their chin to face him. Their eyes were wide with anticipation.
"I've liked you for a while, actually." He replied, watching as Y/N's fingers tightened on the flower.
"Yeah?" Y/N asked, "You like me?"
He tipped his head forward so their foreheads touched. His skin tingled. "Yes, I do. I really like you, Y/N."
"Oh, I'm so glad." They chuckled breathlessly, and he could smell the excitement on them.
Literally.
He was a wolf, he could pick up on hormones and stuff, sue him.
"And the right time too," he agreed.
"What do you mean?" Y/N pulled back slightly. This close, Wolf could see the slight flecks of gold in their eyes from the sun.
"Don't look now, but there's misteltoe above us."
He chuckled as Y/N spotted the plant with white berries, hung above them in the pine tree. "You're so cute when you're embarrassed." He crooned, while Y/N hid their face behind the hand holding the flower.
"Wolf..." They groaned, and he chuckled, tipping their face up with his fingers. "You're too sweet."
He'd hung that yesterday afternoon, after a whole lot of slipping, falling, and 'Seriously?', but it had been hung. And afterwards he had a very sore right leg.
I think I pulled something in my leg trying to put up those stupid berries.
"Would it be cliche to kiss you right now?" He inquired. He rubbed their chin gently with his thumb.
Y/N didn't answer, because they'd already pulled him close, kissing him sweetly.
He circled his arms around their waist, kissing back as much as he liked. They tasted faintly of gingerbread and hot chocolate.
Even though the sun would set sooner, even though Y/N probably wasn't supposed to be here, even though some of the decorations weren't the prettiest, he couldn't have asked for a better Christmas.
And he would do all of this again.
*I know Christmas has long passed, but I was looking at Christmas movies and Into The Woods, and this oneshot idea came about!
